I hope its okay that I created this. I’ve been seen a few similar ones for Drama popping up, so I thought I would create one for this so we can discuss. This can be the official thread for this category
This would have been a very weak category if Gervais and Macy weren’t nominated, and Andy Samberg and Johnny Galecki had made it in. But these two brought a little breath of fresh air to the weak category, and I am confident that Gervais will end up winning.
The fact is Jim Parsons deserved his first win and perhaps his second – his third win last year was because of the lack of competition. This year, however, Gervais and Macy have very showy, bold performances. Gervais (in an underrated show) is very subtle, meek and the complete opposite of the loud, crass comedian we’ve come to know. Gervais is good, and I am happy that British comedy is on the academy’s radar, but I would have preferred his slot went to David Walliams or Ian McKellen
What do you guys think?July 15, 2014 at 4:42 am #323243
I have to say that this category is not that tough. Just depends on the episodes. If Parsons submits ”Thanksgiving Decoupling” he will probably win, but if he doesn’t, then William H. Macy or Ricky Gervais will have the edge. For now it’s not easy because we don’t know what episode will the contenders submit, but when they do then everything will be much easier.July 15, 2014 at 5:06 am #323244
What about Louie C.K.? His show is clearly beloved and maybe this is his year… I still think they’re going to mindfuck us in the comedy categories. Outside of Comedy Actress, the race is wide open (and I’m not as 100% confident about Julia winning as I was last year).July 15, 2014 at 5:54 am #323245
I really think Louis C.K. did the best work out of the nominees this year, but the fact is that while he deserves to win, he is more likely to be honored in Writing and/or Directing. He is certainly winning Writing, and I just think maybe they are going to go for a different actor in this category. But he is certainly a solid second or third for me.July 15, 2014 at 6:04 am #323246
I expect Parsons to prevail yet again,
but it’s the emmys which is now more surprising than ever, so surprise win is bound to happen in some categoriesJuly 15, 2014 at 6:07 am #323247
Gervais has this without a fightJuly 15, 2014 at 6:31 am #323248
What about Louie C.K.? His show is clearly beloved and maybe this is his year….
I feel like they view Louie C.K. the same way that they have viewed Larry David for Curb Your Enthusiasm. Both series have had a lot of support (Louie has more support in terms of number of wins, plus he has personally won for Writing, unlike David for Curb), but I think the academy perception toward these two individuals as actors precludes them from ever actually winning.

I won’t vote until I see the submissions. Plus, now, I have to watch Derek. Hmmph!July 15, 2014 at 9:14 am #323250
I wouldn’t count Matt LeBlanc out. Episodes has a lot of support.July 15, 2014 at 9:22 am #323251
Jim Parsons DID NOT deserve his second Emmy.
That’s all I’m going to contribute here.July 15, 2014 at 9:26 am #323252
Agree that it will depend on tapes, but Parsons/Macy/Gervais are the biggest threats to take this. If Macy submits “Emily” tho, he wins.July 15, 2014 at 10:50 am #323253
Jim Parsons in the terms of comedy is the best performance but William H. Macy is my favorite overall pick. People have always said “Louis is going to win. He’s the frontrunner” but has he ever really? He has never won this category so I don’t know why people said that year after year but I’m glad that is calming down this year. Gervais shouldn’t win. I think Derek is a really annoying show and I love Gervais but he isn’t that special on the show. This is between Macy and Parsons. It all comes down to if the voters are going for an overall performance or who is the funniest. LeBlanc and Cheadle should just be happy they are invited to the party every yearJuly 15, 2014 at 11:02 am #323254
Voted for Parsons. I’m pretty sure he’s going to have the funniest tape in this line-up, and voters won’t care/realize that he’s going to four-peat.July 15, 2014 at 11:38 am #323255
Is Ricky Gervais nominated for the 1st or 2nd season of Derek?
Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.
