I wanted to do this before SNL 40, but completely forgot, but better late than never.
I want to determine who GD thinks is the best castmember currently on Saturday Night Live. There are 16 in total, but polls only allow for ten options, so I’m splitting them between repertory and featured cast.
Vote for who you think is the best SNL castmember in the featured cast, and comment below why you think soFebruary 28, 2015 at 11:25 am #342529
Pete Davidson is funny but the show seems to think he’s the next Sandler or Samberg which I’m just not seeing at this point. Overhyped.
Michael Che is surprisingly bad.
Colin Jost is unsurprisingly bad.
Leslie Jones and Sasheer Zamata are both funny but haven’t had many opportunities to be so. I prefer the former.
Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett are two of the funniest performers on the show right now, despite their limited screentime. Prefer Bennett just by a bit, he’s the one I voted for.February 28, 2015 at 3:19 pm #342530
Bennett and Mooney seem to be the ones bringing the most creativity to SNL at the moment, based on their shorts. I decided to vote for Bennett since I’ve enjoyed him a bit more in other sketches (his Nick Offerman impression was great).
Who voted for Colin Jost? The guy can’t even tell a joke with a change of inflection, and he hasn’t done the show many favors since taking over as Head Writer. He’s one of the worst SNL cast members in history to have such a prominent position.February 28, 2015 at 5:00 pm #342531
7. JostFebruary 28, 2015 at 9:51 pm #342532
She’s been uneven, but when she hits no one makes me laugh harder than Jones. Girl knows her way around a line. The Che and Jost Update needs to be done after this year. They almost make me yearn for Colin Quinn. Almost.March 1, 2015 at 12:17 am #342533
Kyle Mooney is embarrassing. He makes me want to claw my eyes out anytime one of his dumbass pretape skits are on.
Pete Davidson is awesome. Every weekend update spot he does is hilarious and he really gives the show a much needed youthful spirit. Leslie Jones is also wonderful. No matter how awful or poorly written a sketch is she can make it funny.March 1, 2015 at 9:04 am #342534
1) Leslie Jones
2) Beck Bennett
3) Kyle Mooney
The rest range from mediocre to horrible.March 1, 2015 at 3:01 pm #342535
Jones for sure…March 1, 2015 at 3:12 pm #342536
1st Place(Winner): Pete Davidson
2nd Place (Runner-Up): Leslie JonesMarch 2, 2015 at 9:19 am #342537
Kyle Mooney (my choice) is the funniest repertoire player, but not by a landslide like McKinnon. He plays the awkward card so well and those of you who aren’t fans just don’t get his style of humor. It’s actually very smart comedy, the way he portrays awkward interviewers/teenage boys/etc. He and Beck Bennett are SO good together. Their creativity and chemistry is unmatched on the show and brings me back to the Samberg/Lonely Island days (which I miss oh so much)
Leslie Jones is also hilarious, albeit her rocky start in the Fall. She gets better with every show. I wish Sasheer Zamata had more screen time! Those are my top 4.
Michael Che is (I agree from above) surprisingly bad. He should just be a writer, he’s a shitty performer and seems pissed off/Grumpy all the time on Weekend Update. Colin Jost should go away from update immediately.
I still haven’t made up my mind on Pete Davidson yet. He has his shining moments but at the same time he comes across as annoying and immature.I mean, he is by far the youngest cast member.
