People love to moan about comedy and drama series category placements. Possibly what will be the busier of the two threads, of the series categorised as a COMEDY, which deliver some of the best dramatic performances?

Lea Michele in Glee. She also did great comedic work but I’ll always remember her more dramatic performances like ‘Goodbye’, ‘The Break Up’ and ‘The Quarterback’, where she really knocked it out of the park.

Another big one is Lisa Kudrow for The Comeback, who is unbelievably impressive both comedically and dramatically on that show. Her emotional performance in ‘Valerie Faces the Critics’ in particular sticks in my mind.

Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross in Desperate Housewives.

    – Don’t get me wrong, both ladies had laugh out loud moments, but they also had strong and worthy dramatic story-lines which I loved. I will never ever understand how Ferrara beat Huffman in 2007. Bang was one of the best episode I’ve seen on television, and Huffman’s performance was TV Gold in it. I understand that it’s a dramatic tape in a comedy field, but it has to be about the damn performance, not about the silly laughs all the time.

    Dot Marie Jones in Glee

    – A brilliant dramatic guest turn which should have won Jones a few Emmys.
