September is nearly upon us, dear Derbyites. That means two things – Emmys (hooray) and the new fall TV season (hooray).

So let’s take stock of what was the absolute BEST of this TV summer. Nominate your picks in this thread below…

My pick, without a shred of doubt, is USA’s “Mr Robot.” It just smacked me across the face with its style, pace, characters, plot and (most of all) the performance by leading man Rami Malek.

Second place… “Hannibal,” generally my favorite show on television.

    …OK. Go……..

    1 – Bojack Horseman
    2 – Hannibal
    3 – Sense8
    4 – Mr. Robot
    5 – Penny Dreadful
7 – Wet Hot American Summer
8 – Orange is the New Black
    9 – Wayward Pines

I haven´t finished Rectify’s season three and watch all available episodes of Masters of Sex season 3, but when I do this, probably the ranking will change.

Penny Dreadful and Unreal, both amazing. More people should give both a shot.

Sense8 is boundary breaking and presents one of the best television ensembles of the past few years. Plus it promotes racial, cultural and sexual diversity and I’m all for this. I haven’t seen Mr. Robot just yet but I’ll start now.

    1. UnREAL – so funny and so dark- truly complex
    2. Rick and Morty – hilariously funny while, similarly to above, not afraid to get dark.
    2. Sense8 – that start was soo bad, but the end was sooo good
    3. Hannibal (haven’t watched all of it, so this could easily change soon)

I plan on catching up with OITNB soon, and starting both Bojack and Mr Robot

I tried Sense8. I really did. But that first episode was hard work. Really boring! Somebody PLEASE convince me that there’s more, that it gets better!!!

Rectify is the only show I’ve genuinely loved all summer (but it’s been one of my very favorite shows since its first season). Feel lukewarm toward just about everything else, and that includes Hannibal and Masters of Sex. Review is kind of fun, though. Watched the first episode of Sense8. Didn’t love it, or hate it, and will get back to it at some point. Will try Mr. Robot soon. But I can’t imagine a better acting ensemble than that of Rectify.
