What performance do you love on TV from a show that you don’t think is very good?

While not thinking he’s deserved 4 Emmys, I think Parsons is very strong on TBBT even though I really don’t like the writing on the show.

Ann Dowd, Justin Theroux, Christopher Eccelston, and Carrie Coon “The Leftovers”. The only reason to watch such a mess

Rachel McAdams “True Detective Season 2”

Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, and Jessica Lange “American Horror Story: Coven”

I haven’t seen the whole series but the first two episodes weren’t showing much promise but Patrick Stewart was pretty great for “Blunt Talk”

    I’m thinking about others

Some shows that I don’t think are bad, they are just not my cup of tea:

Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss “Mad Men”
    Maggie Smith “Downton Abbey”
Claires Danes and Damien Lewis “Homeland”
    Patricia Arquette “CSI: Cyber”

Tim Roth was pretty great on Lie to Me, despite the show being mediocre.

Also, American Horror Story has been pretty much a waste of an amazingly talented cast since day one.

    Taraji P Henson – Empire
This show would be incredibly unwatchable without her in it. Though I have kind of given up now, I understand why Henson is getting the awards buzz because of the shows popularity needing some recognition from these bodies.

    Rachel McAdams – True Detective
I preferred season two to one, but it still had misses. McAdams was a constant shining beacon of hope even in those less decent episodes.

Tim Daly, Audra McDonald – Private Practice

I guess it depends on your definition of “bad” show, but here are my choices:

Naya Rivera, Heather Morris and Lea Michele in “Glee”

Marcia Cross, Laura Leighton, Heather Locklear in “Melrose Place”

Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley in “Beverly Hills, 90210”

Julie Harris, Joan Van Ark, Donna Mills in “Knots Landing”

John Ritter and Suzanne Somers in “Three’s Company”

Suzanne Somers in “Step By Step”

    Bronson Pinchot in “Perfect Strangers”

Nancy McKeon in “The Facts of Life”

    Andrea Bendewald in “Suddenly Susan”

Leslie Grossman, Tammy Lynn Michaels in “Popular”

Amy Pietz in “Caroline In The City”

Nicole Sullivan, Alex Borinstein, Michael McDonald and Debra Wilson in “MadTV”

Taraji in Empire is the most obvious one. Most people are listing mediocre shows with several good performances, not actually bad shows with only one redeeming, great performance.

Ann Dowd, Justin Theroux, Christopher Eccelston, and Carrie Coon “The Leftovers”. The only reason to watch such a mess

So there are 4 people who give the ‘best performance’ on a bad show? I just fail to see the reasoning behind singling those actors out while dismissing the rest as bad (not a provocative post, just curious).

Jamie Lee Curtis and Niecy Nash in Scream Queens

Holland Taylor in Two and A Half Men (its Comedy Series nominations are an embarrassment to the TV Academy)

Bobby Cananvalle and Ray Romano in Vinyl
