The first episode of the 2nd season will be aired on February 15. Any news or scoops about the upcoming episodes?

Congratulations to Bob Odenkirk for back-to-back nods at SAGs and Golden Globes.

I expect 85-92 Metacritic score. Probably less critic will rate it this time(42 was already huge!), and the appreciation from last year will carry on. And they will start to compare the second season with the first one, instead of comparing with Breaking Bad so that should also help.

I really like this show. On one hand it includes several trademark editing and directing decisions of “Breaking Bad” (duh, the same people are behind the cameras) but on the other the pace is much slower and relaxed to the point that I can see people getting bored. I’m not and can’t wait.

I’d also rather not see Walt, Jesse, Skylar, Marie or Hank there. Gus would be cool, though, I don’t remember how was he connected to Mike but it could work well. More Mike would certainly be appreciated.

This will never meet the excellance Breaking Bad was in its final 2 seasons (or 3 if you include 5a and 5b seperate), but IMO the first season of BCS was better than the first season of BB

Metacritic reviews so far are 10 points higher than last year’s (meaning the same reviewer gave it 10 points higher this year than they did last year, and Indiewire even gave it 11 higher). I expect at least an 85 when the reviews are all in. Either way, I am extremely excited and cannot wait for next Sunday. BCS was the best new show of 2015 and jf123 is right, its first season was better than Breaking Bad’s.

But I don’t find that comparison fair at all; because in its first season, just like every other show, BrBa had to find its own identity, needed a time to set up its plot, introduce its characters and story while trying not to bore the audience on the ride. On the other hand BCS, just like every other spin-off, grandfathered its theme and pace from previous installment and offered a much easier viewing experience for a person who’s familiar with the previous show.

BBad’s first season was also slowed down by the writer’s strike.

Breaking Bad‘s first season was great.  The writers’ strike only cost them two episodes because they had a short order anyway.  The changes that they made in the break seem to have been really for the best though.

    All fair points.

But despite all that, BB’s first season was still easily better than BCS.

BB’s first season was easily superior. Only seasons two and four of BB are better than its debut even with the strike. That first season was focused, entertaining, confident, groundbreaking stuff. While “And the Bag’s in the River”, “Crazy Handful of Nothin’ and “Pilot” remained three of the very best episodes for the entire series. On the other side, it took at least half a season for BCS to even get a bit interesting. It seemed to be in its own way and rambling a lot, trying to maintain BB’s thrills when that’s not its fit. It was also sometimes too slick and stylized and cold for something that’s essentially a character drama.

I definitely agree with the episode choices.  I even think ‘Cancer Man’ was one of the better episodes of the series as well.

Saw that BCS was uploaded to Netflix so I am going to give it another go.  I could only get through the first 4-5 episodes but I hear it gets good at 6 so I going in cautiously optimistic.

I’m surprised to read about somehow negative reaction towards season 1 of BB when compared to the remaining episodes. I rank S1 higher than 2nd, 3rd, first half of 4th and part 1 of 5th and no list of Top 10 episodes will be full without “Pilot” and “Crazy Handful of Nothin'”. Bryan Cranston’s Emmy win for “Pilot” is my favorite Emmy win for the series alongside writing Emmy for “Ozymandias”.

“Better Call Saul” came to its own. I loved BB-esque arcs, for example amazing Mike’s plan in the flashback or action with Tuco and twins (and obviously want more of that kind of material!) but other episodes had so much to offer in terms of character development that I believe that all the praise was deserved and wasn’t only some leftovers after BB has come to an end at its peak.

I never like comparisons like this, but with BCS and BB it’s inevitable. BCS has definitely, absolutely, without a doubt come into its own as a show. It has similar production and storytelling qualities as BB, but it’s certainly not the same show. If anything, I think it’s a more introspective, slower, more detailed show. You could watch BB and never get bored because SO much happened pretty much ALL the time, but in BCS, you have to wait and IMO the payoff is greater.

    Can’t wait for the premiere!!

Season 1 of “Breaking Bad” was excellent. I knew Bryan Cranston was winning that Emmy after seeing the pilot. Comparing it to “Better Call Saul”‘s debut season is specious when one has the benefit of comparison that the other one doesn’t have. One also has completed its full artistic vision, while the other is still finding its way. Reviews look great regardless. There’s chatter about Aaron Paul being receptive to a guest spot at some point in the future. Hope the show reaches new heights this season, and as always, redemption for Jonathan Banks.
