Orange performed extremely well at the Creative Arts Emmys, maybe just as expected but now that we’ve seen how much support there is for the show, are some of you changing your comedy series prediction to Orange? After all, Veep and Modern Family both walked away empty handed…August 17, 2014 at 5:07 am #327647
Yeah, I think it definitely can winAugust 17, 2014 at 6:23 am #327648
Well, the “now” on your title is interesting.
When did the voting for the important categories close? Because if they’re still voting until Tuesday or Wednesday, then it should be in consideration.August 17, 2014 at 6:54 am #327649
The ‘now’ in the title refers to the fact that we have seen a considerable amount of industry support for the show, it does not refer to the fact that voters will now start voting for the show just because it’s won a handful of Creative Arts gongs. I’m just curious as to what people’s thoughts are now, because we have officially seen how the show has been received by the Emmy voters. I am very tempted to switch from Modern Family to Orange … But I don’t know if it’s just because of the hype of the show’s wins yesterday.August 17, 2014 at 7:17 am #327650
Well, the ballots for the telecast awards had to be turned in on 8/14/14 by 5:00pm PST. However, I always thought the show had a great shot at the big prize. Now, I think it’s an even greater shot.August 17, 2014 at 7:20 am #327651
If you look back at the first season of Boardwalk Empire, they won SEVEN awards at the Creative Arts Emmys that year and I know a few people thought that it could beat Mad Men in Drama Series after that but it didn’t. Just saying that it’s not necessarily a direct indicator, but it does show industry support which is always good.August 17, 2014 at 7:23 am #327652
But Boardwalk was in now way the same kind of cultural phenomenon that Orange is. But I take your point.August 17, 2014 at 8:12 am #327653
You just had to know that Boardwalk Empire was always going to be a crafts show for the Emmys. It was never going to win Drama Series. Specially during the Mad Men years. It could’ve cleaned at the Creative Arts Emmys with all its crafts and still loose every Drama Series nominations it could’ve had. It simply never caught on.
Orange on the other hand is a show that could someday win that award and this year might be it. It is coming in with great buzz, tapes, reviews and performances. Now this result from last night and it might still win Directing and Suppoting Actress. They could certainly end up in a very good place. However, I’m still going with Modern Family because voters are that simple. I’ll happily accept I was wrong once any other show wins.August 17, 2014 at 8:46 am #327654
I don’t usually like to read too much into the Creative Arts, but I am starting to think Orange is a phenomenon too big to ignore.
In order to win Series on those panels you need buzz, momentum, and passion and I think Orange has proved it has it. The first sign was when it got so many fringe nominations like Lyonne and Cox. The second sign for me was listening to Lily Tomlin and Minnie Driver gush over it on an Emmy event recently. The fact they voted for Uzo last night and IMO ignored better tapes from Cox and Cusack shows they are very aware of the show and it’s impact. It’s likely going to win Directing. Possibly Supporting Actress. That’s 5 heading to Comedy Series.August 17, 2014 at 9:16 am #327655
The only thing Modern Family has going for it is the fact that if it wins, it will be historical. The only real win it has a hope of securing is Directing, and that may not happen because Jodie Foster is in the race. Its acting chances are potentially zero, while Orange could upset in supporting & lead actress if JLD isn’t careful. It could also very well win writing & directing, making a series win very possible. This whole ‘history/statistics/too dramatic’ business is too easy an excuse IMO. Last year, some people were doubting JLD could score a double straight win for Veep, because the history in that category said otherwise, which was bullshit. I think the editors are being too cosy about the series race, & that Orange has a good a chance as Family at this point. It’s Veep I’m not so sure about, because it seems to be too small a show with a small cult following and I don’t think enough people follow it to warrant a series win. I’m rambling now. This is such a heated category.August 17, 2014 at 9:41 am #327656
I´ve been (almost) completely convinced that it will win. I just don´t think MF will win a fifth (though I wish it would). Besides, the creative emmys didn´t really expressed a surprising amount of support: guest actress and casting were obvious locks. Had it won many more, then it would be much more telling.August 17, 2014 at 10:07 am #327657

Well, winning more would’ve proven to be quite difficult, considering they walked into the ceremony with 7 nominations. They had 3 in editing & 3 in Guest Actress, for which they won both of those categories, and the ONLY other category they were nominated in, which was castng, they won that, too!August 17, 2014 at 10:30 am #327658
I would much rather have OITNB win over Modern Family any day of the week.August 17, 2014 at 10:36 am #327659
