Not sure how I feel about it. Yes, she has a strong voice, but acting, not sure. It’s not the person I would have chosen. Not top 10 or 20 even. At least it isn’t Taylor?November 30, 2012 at 2:37 pm #266104
I love the movie as much as any other fan…
HOWEVER…if this production manages to be more faithful to the original stage version than the movie, then I wouldn’t mind.
Hopefully Carrie Underwood can lose the Southern accent?
And why would you even mention Taylor? She’s like 22. She would be way too young. Unnessecary bash.November 30, 2012 at 4:28 pm #266105
Another popular country/pop queen. Just saying her voice isn’t as strong as Carrie’sNovember 30, 2012 at 4:42 pm #266106
Why coldn’t they hire an actress who has experience acting………. There are so many good actors out there in need of a “big break”November 30, 2012 at 5:48 pm #266108
oh lord. This is a terrible idea.November 30, 2012 at 5:53 pm #266109
I agree..a terrible idea…bordering on insane.
Just heard her sing the title song on some CBS special..
She was nervous, but showed no emotion at all…
There’s no way she can pull off a miracle of acting.
Even if Hugh Jackman got the role of Captain Von Trapp,
this will be awful….
Leave it alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!November 30, 2012 at 6:18 pm #266110
ENOUGH REMAKES!!!!!! I’M SICK OF IT!!!!!!November 30, 2012 at 6:21 pm #266111
To be fair, Carrie was really sick at the CBS taping. Also she’s a lot better at performing now than she was five years ago. Now her acting I don’t know. I thought she was okay in “How I Met Your Mother” but bad in “Soul Surfer.”
So to be clear this isn’t a movie remake right? If I’m right, it’s just a live stage production that’s going to be on tv. I’m willing to give it a chance as long as they aren’t trying to recreate the movie.December 1, 2012 at 9:07 am #266113
That’s what I understand as well. This will be a live production of the stage version. Someone in the comments section of EW suggested an actress on a current NBC show to portray Maria and has played her on Broadway before and is a Tony award winner, Laura Benanti of Go On.December 1, 2012 at 11:44 am #266114
I like this casting choice. Underwood has one of the most amazing voices in music right now, but I do agree we’ll have to see how she does with the acting. But I have faith that she will do just fine.December 1, 2012 at 12:01 pm #266115
I’m just curious as to who else they’re going to cast. Speaking of T-Swift, she’s too young for Maria, but they could always get her to play Liesl. LOL
As for Captain von Trapp, theres’ so many interesting choices they could make.December 1, 2012 at 1:10 pm #266116
They’ll probably cast someone like Adam Levine.
