Just a reminder- anyone who makes a case for actor/actress X/Y because ‘they won a Golden Glove for that role early this year’, just know that factoid is MEANINGLESS when it comes to who eventually wins the Emmy…July 15, 2017 at 6:23 pm #1202153621
Honest question for those who were predicting Fleabag and, to a lesser extent, Insecure, for anything: Who’s your dealer and how cheap is it? 😛
Seriously though, why?

I predicted Issa Rae b/c I found her highly deserving of recognition and better than the majority of the actual Lead Actress Comedy nominees this year. Yes, I was emboldened by the Globes recognition as one of the very few high-profile “precursors” leading up to the Emmys. Sometimes that pans out, and other times like this one, it didn’t. That won’t stop many, including myself, from doing the exact same thing next year. It’s always been the game and always will be.July 15, 2017 at 9:00 pm #1202153663
I love Adlon and Jane Fonda but I would give a testicle if Rachel Bloom and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” were both nominated.July 15, 2017 at 9:02 pm #1202153664
If Hugh Laurie does not win I am getting hella drunk that night.July 16, 2017 at 12:19 am #1202153735
BAFTA-winning and Critics’ Choice-nominated Fleabag was the top push of a “network” that won multiple major Emmys the last two years. Insecure has acclaim, an auteur narrative, Golden Globe and TCA nominations and HBO behind it. They obviously really believe in it, as they fast-tracked the second season to air after Game of Thrones and Ballers.July 16, 2017 at 8:35 am #1202154025
It feels really weird that a 4x Series nominee has 1 acting nom altogether so far. Can’t think of another Silicon Valley-esque track record.July 16, 2017 at 5:33 pm #1202154364
It just barely has that one too, given how Thomas Middleditch was clearly sixth in hindsight.July 19, 2017 at 2:59 pm #1202158936

I was annoyed with the glut of Veep and Silicon Valley name-checking in Directing (both shows getting all of their submissions in), but double checked with last year where the same thing happened, and now I’m just disappointed.
Is the directing branch even watching comedies anymore? I honestly can’t tell the difference between the individual directors on either show, is it just me? Veep didn’t even get into directing before season 4.
It seems to simply be an easy way to fill up the ballots. Oh well, hopefully this category just means Donald Glover will win at least one Emmy.
