Didn’t see a thread for this one so there we go.

Based solely on teir tape’s strength, here’ how I’d expect Emmy voters to rank them :

    6) Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie (Showtime) : “I Say a Little Prayer”

Not a bad tape as it’s the finale and Falco plays Jackie high very well, but she’s obviously not funny in it, and doesn’t have thatmuch impact either. There’s no big fireworks coming out here, just a pretty solid performance, which does not a good submission make.

    5) Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation (NBC) : “One Last Ride”

As a P&R fan, I was surprised by how unimpressive this is as a submission. Leslie isn’t really the focus and she doesn’t have that many funny moments. It’s mostly emotional because it’s the finale, and reminding voters that this is their last chance to award her is good, but unlike past years, Poehler has to hope people won’t watch the episodes.

    4) Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie (Netflix) : “The Vows”

This would have been a great submission for Fonda, which can’t help Tomlin here, but still, she’s good and funnier than the previous two, which is enough to make her rank higher I think.

    3) Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep (HBO) : “Election Night”

Usually JLD wins this because she’s very funny. Here she’s pretty funny but the strength of this tape is that it’s memorable as there are pretty big stakes. It’s probably the weakest submission she’s had though, there are no standout comedic moments, just little laughs all throughout the episode.

    2) Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer (Comedy Central) : “Cool With It”

Loved this (had not seen anything from that show before), but more to the point : it’s purely comedic and she’s in every frame. Just that is enough to make this a better submission than all the previous people. SHe has more memorable funny moments than JLD by far (the eponymous sketch especially), though the sketch comedy aspect of it will inevitably turn off some. It also has the benefit of being “important”, as it adresses major issues of gender equality.

    1) Lisa Kudrow, The Comeback (HBO) : “Valerie Is Taken Seriously”

Hadn’t seen any episode of The Comeback, this certainly made me want t watch more, but more importantly, Kudrow’s amazing in it. It’s Hollywood satire, which we know the Emmys love, Kudrow is in every frame and she is hilarious. The end also actually makes you feel for her, as a critic says some nice things about here and you see the impact it has. This is the best epsiode submitted in the categoru by a mile, it has an arc (which Schumer lacks), screentime, laughs and impact.

Now considering the fact that many voters won’t see the episodes, here are my actual predictions :

    1) Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation (NBC)
    2) Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer (Comedy Central)
    3) Lisa Kudrow, The Comeback (HBO)
    4) Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie (Netflix)
    5) Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep (HBO)
    6) Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie (Showtime)

I think the new system is going to be tougher on previous winners, and Veep had a pretty divisive season this year, so those combined makes it likely that JLD loses this year. Falco’s show is ending but she’s already won and they got some flack for awarding a purely dramatic performance, so no. MostlyI think this is between the top 3 : Poehler because they feel forced to, Schumer because she has tremendous buzz right now and feels like an important win, Kudrow if they watch the episodes.

My Personal Rankings My Predicted Actual Rankings
    1) Edie Falco – Nurse Jackie 1) Julia Louis Dreyfus – Veep
    2) Julia Louis Dreyfus – Veep 2) Amy Schumer – Inside Amy Schumer
    3) Lily Tomlin – Grace & Frankie 3) Amy Poehler – Parks & Recreation
    4) Lisa Kudrow – The Comeback 4) Lisa Kudrow – The Comeback
    5) Amy Schumer – Inside Amy Schumer 5) Lily Tomlin – Grace & Frankie
Not Seen Amy Poehler in Parks & Recreation. 6) Edie Falco – Nurse Jackie

Yeah I understand that Nurse Jackie isn’t wholly comedic, but it is brilliant nonetheless, and Falco was brilliant across the entire final season, particularly in that finale too. I would give the Emmy to her for having the best performance. In reality, I think she would have had to have won more than the one Emmy for this, or be wildly overdue in order to win this year. Shame.

I haven’t seen JLD’s submission, but she is still really good in the other episodes I have seen so far. It would be kind of boring to have the same winner 4 years in a row, but she is good in the show. At least it isn’t some dull performance winning every year. Voters seem to love her, and grow in love for the show every year. While Schumer is the ‘it’ comedy girl, as McCarthy was when she won, I feel JLD may have enough of a block of strong supporters in the academy to push for her to win.

Lily Tomlin has an interesting submission. Very comedic in the first half, to a more dramatic role in the second half of the episode. Good showcase of her range, and she was for me the stand-out of the entire series. I don’t think the show or Tomlin is hugely on voters radars to win though. Only a truly hilarious from start to finish episode could win it for Tomlin, which she does not have.

Lisa Kudrow plays a very irritating character. That is, all credit, due to Kudrow’s performance. That is a compliment by the way. But there isn’t anything in there for me to either want to vote for her, or carry on watching her in this role. Fans of the show LOVE her, I know, but apparently this isn’t her strongest episode to submit. A very divisive show I feel, so that will largely work against her.

I laughed a grand total of about once when watching Schumer’s episode. And that was from the lyrics of the boyband. Nothing to do with Schumer’s performance really. I do like Schumer. Admittedly I have only seen her in Trainwreck, and in interviews for said film, but I was disappointed by this. It should not get her anywhere close to the Emmy on the night. Having said that, she is the ‘it’ girl of 2015. They gave McCarthy the Emmy when she was the ‘it’ girl off the back of Bridesmaids. Maybe a large swell of voters may want to reward someone else this year. If they do feel that, then Schumer will be on that stage winning this Emmy on the night.

I have never seen Parks & Rec, and am unsure of whether I will watch Poehler’s submission mainly because it is the final episode from what I believe. She is very funny in other stuff I have seen her in though. It will have to be a huge backing of Parks & Rec fans all going for her in order for her to pull off a win. Maybe if she had a big film that was fully comedic and live action, like Schumer, instead of an animated, dramatic-comedic film like she actually has (as much as I ADORE Inside Out), then she could be in with a stronger shot than she realistically is.

I’ve already shared my extensive analysis of this particular race so I’m just going to keep it simple this time: Amy Poehler has an underwhelming tape and it’s hard for me to believe Hollywood is just dying to give her an Emmy. She has had plenty of opportunities to pick her but they decided give 3 consecutive awards to an already Emmy winner Julia Louis Dreyfus. If Poehler didn’t win before with much better tapes she ain’t gonna win now. Lisa Kudrow is a legend but her show is divisive: there will be people who will gonna love her/it and people who will gonna hate her/it. Just look at GD’s opinion on The Comeback. It’s a minor but accurate indicator on how people respond to the show. Lily Tomlin and Edie Falco are great actresses and respected veterans but their shows have literally no buzz at all. In order for someone to win an Emmy there’s gotta be passion behind that performer/performance. Falco and Tomlin have enough support (that’s why they were nominated in the first place) but not enough for a win.

It all comes down to Schumer vs. Louis-Dreyfus, if you ask me. I’m picking Schumer because she’s at the top of her game and her buzz is insane right now. It’s a much bigger phenomenon than McCarthy in my opinion.

My biggest problem with this category as a whole is how poorly as a group they submitted. Out of respect and in all fairness Falco, was never going to have a great tape. But Tomlin pretty much shot herself in the foot with this episode, why chose one where you’re not funny and sleep with your ex husband who’s about to get married. I didn’t think it was possible for her to be unlike able but she pulled it off. Kudrows I found annoying and Schumer submitted a weak episode. Which leaves Poehler, I want her to win and this is heartbreaking when she had the episode to beat Dreyfus. I still think she has her supporters mixed with being in a hit movie and a Buzzed about Netflix series might be enough. But I’m being optimistic and the closer we get to the ceremony the more I will face reality and go with Dreyfus and that knock out episode she submitted probably her best submission for all of Veep. Why couldn’t Dreyfus pick Mommy Meyer get worse episode and make this an interesting race.

An interesting race of… poor submissions? I don’t blame JLD for picking her best. It’s what everyone should be doing. This category should’ve been the most interesting one, with ‘it’ girl Schumer, beloved veterans Tomlin and Falco, tour de force past winner Dreyfus, performance of the year Kudrow and overdue Poehler. Instead, pretty much everyone but Julia (and, arguably, Kudrow) botched their chances so it makes for a underwhelming category after all.

I think Emmy voters will vote as follows:
    1. Julia Louis-Dreyfus
    2. Amy Schumer
    3. Amy Poehler
    4. Lisa Kudrow
    5. Lily Tomlin
    6. Edie Falco

My personal ranking based on performance:
    1. Kudrow
    2. Poehler
    3. Schumer
    4. Edie Falco
    5. Julia Louis-Dreyfus
    (haven’t seen Tomlin)

JLD has by far the best tape, and she is still giving TV’s best comedy performance.

I hope she wins a fourth for it.

I think it’s between Amy Schumer and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. I agree that if they hadn’t bothered rewarding Poehler for better submissions in the past, it would be weird for her to win this year. Lisa Kudrow’s submission isn’t her best acting-wise, specifically, but it is pretty funny as she tries to navigate green screen.

    My ranking:
    1. Amy Schumer – She’s having her moment, though I think Veep wins Series and Chlumsky.
    2. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss  – She has the best submission, the best show, and a proven history with the voters. Simple as that.
    3. Lisa Kudrow – Like I said, not really reflective of her best work on the show but it’s a solid comedy submission.
    4. Amy Poehler – She has her moments in a long episode, but it doesn’t feel like a lead performance.
    5. Lily Tomlin – She was nominated because she’s on the board of governors and we all know it.
    6. Edie Falco – Can’t imagine why they’d want to give her another win for this show, as good as it is.

Wow, such an interesting category!  Here is how I would vote based on tapes:

    1. Amy Schumer

    2. Lisa Kudrow

    3. Julia Louis Dreyfess

    4. Eddie Falco

    5. Lilly Tomlin

    6. Amy Poeler

I doubt this award will be won on first place votes.  It will be won more on how the rest of the rankings play out.  Those 5th and 6th place votes are going to be shelled out here more than a lot of other categories because some voters will say enough is enough!.  Lilly Tomlin, Julia Louis Dreyfess and Eddie Falco are most vunerable to these votes because they have a zillion Emmys. All are very popular but if only about five voters put them in 6th, that’s 30 points added on to your score in one fail swoop.  They’ll need a lot of number one votes to overcome that!

The tapes of Lilly and Eddie are also very week so if either wins it just shows how much the academy loves them.  Louis Dreyfess has a knockout episode and this would be a winner in most any year, but if they give her a fourth straight emmy, it will be like anointing her the American Dame of Comedy!  I think John Laroquette is the only actor to win 4 in a row for same show and same character.  So obviously, this is also a very difficult feat to accomplish and Laroqueette didn’t already have 2 previous wins like Dreyfess does!  This is the same academy who thought Parsons needed to get down from the table.  Dreyfess will need a lot of luck to overcome this hurdle.  Voters also have their alltime favotires so there is a good chance someone might be like, “That girl is no Luicille Ball!”   Are they ready to say she’s the best comedian of all time.  It will be interesting to see.

Poeler’s chances completely lie in the fact that she’s overdue.  Her tape is also very blah.  Very, very, very blah.

Lisa Kudrow is such a huge question mark.  She’s fantastic in her tape and her characterization is extremely strong.  She makes such interesting and creative choices.  I think the academy will really identify with her challenges of the green screen acting, the abusive director and the stress over what reporters say.  The green scene is hilarious and her overall episode is my favorite.  Her overall season is my favorite so I’m also probably very biased here.

Amy Schumer is my choice to win by the slightest margin above Kudrow.  She’s got so much press this year and I constantly see her sketches getting on the blogs because of their great messages.  In addition, she shows the most diverse range of ability – different characters, improvisation, stand-up, interviewing guests.  The biggest hurdle she has to overcome it that it’s a sketch show and many might not respect this as much as the other ladies.  Also,  I wouldn’t say it’s the best acting, but with the combination of the tape and her popularity I would put my money on Schumer.

Helen Hunt won four consecutive in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

    Helen Hunt, Mad About You
    – 1996 – “The Finale”
    – 1997 – “The Birth”
    – 1998 – “Moody Blues”
    – 1999 – “The Final Frontier”

Candice Bergen won five, but only two were consecutive.

John Larroquette and Helen Hunt are the only two performers in Emmy history to win four in a row. Julia Louis-Dreyfus would be third.

I fully agree. Kudrow deserves this.

I was mostly kidding but its like they’re just giving Dreyfus the win based on submissions. I still want Poehler to win.

Tomlin had pretty good episodeS to choose from. The finale is not one of them.

I appreciate that Kudrow didn´t submit the final episode because it was mostly dramatic, even if it was her best performance. Her episode is still pretty good. I wouldn´t mind at all to see her win with this.

Did Tomlin have any better than she submitted?

I liked Schumer’s tape, but I felt the first half was much stronger than the second (in terms of Emmy-bait). She shines in the drunk sketch and the song, but the rapping guy kind of takes over the second half.

Tomlin’s episode should be “The Earthquake” – she spends the entirety of the episode hunkered down underneath a table and it’s quite funny. She won’t win but it’s at least more competitive.

I HOPE Poehler will win, but THINK Schumer will win. I think this is the year Dreyfuss will be dethroned.

My personal favorite is definitely Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She delivers an amazing performance in Veep, one of the best actresses on television. I still have to watch Schumer’s, Falco’s and Kudrow’s submissions.
