How much of a sure thing is she, provided that she submits wisely?
I don’t see anyone else besides Danes stand a remote chance of winning. While everyone’s long written Danes off, she could still end up with the winning-est tape. The lineup is so weak she hardly needs a “Q&A” to stand out.July 13, 2014 at 5:58 pm #323029
Julianna Margulies has many episodes to choose from. I think people are going way too overboard on Wright. She has one good episode but no where near “give her an Emmy for that”. Kerry Washington has many good episodes too. But I don’t think we should write off Claire Danes either. The only 2 we can write off are Dockery and Caplain. They really don’t stand much of a chance with Wright, Margulies, Washington, and Danes.July 13, 2014 at 6:02 pm #323030
I honestly think that Julianna Margulies could win. The Last Call is a great submission for her, and she is a previous winner who is very well-respected by the academy.July 13, 2014 at 6:04 pm #323031
I’ve recently rewatched two of Margulies’ likeliest submissions, “The Last Call” and “A Few Words”, and don’t think either is quite enough.
Don’t even get me started on Washington.July 13, 2014 at 6:07 pm #323032
Those episodes after Will’s death are all good picks for Margulies. Plus this will reward the series since they can’t do it in Best Drama. Charles has a good chance tooJuly 13, 2014 at 6:09 pm #323033
LOL at the person who DQed Dockery and Caplan and not Washington. Both are better actresses than Washington.
I think Wright is in a good position if Danes is her big competition. Like there may have been some Cranston fatigue when Damian Lewis had a strong episode to beat him, there will certainly be some Danes fatigue after a poorly received season and coming off 2 wins.
Marguiles could win if she has a good tape.
So Wright the slight frontrunner with Danes and Marguiles as likely spoilers. Obviously episode submissions can change that.July 13, 2014 at 6:20 pm #323034
Whether you think Kerry Washington is a better actress or not, she has much more of a chance. I hear a whole lot of buzz more for Scandal than Downton Abbey and even Masters of Sex. Caplain will have an advantage with Masters airing right now during voting but Washington is the it girl on TV right now.July 13, 2014 at 6:27 pm #323035
Washington wasn’t even the it girl when the first black winner narrative was on full force last year. They are not giving away a major award to a show as ridiculous as Scandal, and the acting is simply not there.July 13, 2014 at 6:41 pm #323036
Washington lost everywhere last year. Even the star loving Globes passed over her when everyone was saying she would win. Even with the media cheerleading her.
The reason for her losing streak is simple. The performance just isn’t there. She has no shot in a judging panel up against performances like Wright, Danes, or Marguiles. She’s in the same boat as Dockery. Caplan has impressed me, I’ll be interested to see what she submits.July 13, 2014 at 6:43 pm #323037
Danes and Marguiles are the spoilers, MAYBE Washington if they like Scandal that much.July 13, 2014 at 6:48 pm #323038
Am I the only one who thinks Lizzy Caplan has a real chance at upsetting here?July 13, 2014 at 6:50 pm #323039
What is it exactly that makes Robin Wright the front-runner?July 13, 2014 at 7:19 pm #323041
What is it exactly that makes Robin Wright the front-runner?
Every one is a placeholder frontrunner until episode submissions are viewed.
Wright is probably considered ahead right now because she has a strong episode, has a Globe win, on a show that has strong support, and the other top rivals have already won.
She’s also damn good on House of Cards and is a respected actress.
But I forgot. This is the Emmys. And if your name is not Julia Louis Dreyfus, Claire Danes, and Allison Janney your apparently not a good enough actress and need to undergo an intense examination of your qualifications to warrant a win.July 13, 2014 at 7:20 pm #323042
She’s a movie star (relative to the other nominees at least) on a popular show thats competitive for a series win. She has a good tape, is the only nominee in this category to have one a major award in the past year, and honestly there seems to be a consensus in the indsutry that her career in general has been under-rewarded. And her biggest competition is from a previous winner whos show faced a critical backlash, another previous winner who didn’t even make it in last year, and a popular actress on a hit but soapy show. She is definitely not a lock, but right now she’s the frontrunner.
