I am currently watching Homeland and I’m on the third season. As we all know, the third season received a mixed reception from critics and fans alike. The backlash caused the show to miss out on a series nom and writing/directing noms. Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin returned, but not Damian Lewis. Lewis was nominated for lead for the first 2 years and won the first year. He was arguably snubbed not because of the backlash, but because he was only in half of the episodes and undeniably a supporting performer.

I just got to the 9th episode, One Last Thing, and Lewis is outstanding in it. If he went supporting could he have gotten in (maybe replace Jim Carter or his co-star Mandy Patinkin)? And if he gotten in could he have won with this episode?

Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.

I wouldn’t have minded that if it meant pushing Jim Carter out. But realistically, he would have likely taken Josh Charles’s spot. Since Charles was the catalyst of The Good Wife having a resurgence (albeit, short-lived) and nailed it up until then, I was thrilled to see him get recognition.

I think Charles was one of the safer bets in that category before nominations were announced. Everybody knew it was his last season, he got a Golden Globe nom, and TGW has a huge creative renessiance that season. So most people assumed Charles was a safe bet.

I think Lewis would have taken Carter and Patinkins spot. Probably Patinkin, because I doubt the voters would give two slots to Homeland actors after the mixed reception the third season got
