There has been a lot of discussion on the forums about if Jesse Tyler Ferguson could win an Emmy for the Modern Family episode “Message Received”. Now that he has submited the episode, do you think he could win?

I think that he has the best tape, but it’s hard to see him winning against Hale because he shares the MF support with Burrell.

Ya. I can imagine the MF fans that are voters spliting the votes between him and Ty Burrell, but I think he has a better chance than Ty. But he’s not really funny in that episode, he just has that one dramatic scene at the end

I agree that it was mostly about the end scene, but the only other submissions that would have been any good would have been Wedding 1 or 2. It’s too bad they couldn’t have submitted both.

I’m just watching Burrell’s submission. He dresses like a woman and falls off stage. He’s in with a real shot. Much better submission than last year IMO as is Bowen’s.

Edit: Burrell may have just handed Ferguson an Emmy here. What a showcase for him. Big speech, etc… what a race this is!

For the time being, Ferguson’s my number one pick among his group. Never be misled by the fact that this is a “Comedy” category. A storyline with an emotional suckerpunch can often steer a Comedy nominee to the podium (who remembers anything about Debra Messing in her winning episode “The Kid Stays Out of the Picture” OTHER than her episode-closing argument with Eric McCormack?).

I think this really helps Ferguson. He has a great tape that shows all ranges of emotions, and he is hilarious on Burrel’s tape. That new job stuff is very funny and he plays well opposite Aisha Tyler. In his own tape we really feel bad for him because the situation with his dad has not improved. I think that they may want to move on from Burrell but still appreciate this show because its still so funny and giving this guy this emmy would be well appreaciated by viewers compared to some of the other nominees.

I also think that with Brooklyn Nine-Nine underperforming, this may make it harder for Braugher to  win. I don’t think Hale has the type of role for two emmys, so I think this looks good for Ferguson.

Man, Ferguson has never been this competitive. He has a stunning comedic tape in Burrell’s submission, and then has a emotional juggernaut of his own in ‘Message Received.’ He’s definitely the frontrunner. Armisen’s tape is very poor, Braugher’s show doesn’t have the heat, Burrell is hardly in his episode, and Driver submitted poorly. I think it’s Hale vs Ferguson. Repeat vs Overdue.

Ferguson is way ahead of his fellow nominees. He definitely is the frontrunner. He has two great tapes versus a bathroom scene (Hale).

I think so, but I’m waiting to see what Braugher submits before declaring Jesse a winner.

I understand but you see, the problem with Braugher is that his show put the “under” in underperform. The Emmys didn’t like it. Braugher’s character is too rigid. It’s actually funny if you really get into the show but if you don’t and only rubber-stamp Andre… I don’t think he has a shot. I will wait until his submission comes out though.

I don’t get why everyone is hating on Tony Hale now

Is that so? I for one love Hale’s work (and Dreyfus’s) on Veep. And i love the show itself. However I have two eyes, two ears and a brain that works perfectly. I avoid jumping on a show’s bandwagon without analyzing its competition and now that I did I had a confirmation of something that I’ve been saying and thinking for the past few weeks: Hale is not that strong. Ferguson did a much better job and the submission tapes of both actors prove it. But that’s just my opinion. I’m not hating on anyone.
