Kyle Chandler won 2011, when everyone predicted Jon Hamm to win for The Suitcase. Could Matthew Rhys actually win this year since The Americans aired its best season, or does the new system with the popular vote helps more people like Kevin Space (caus he is like by the industry) or Rami Malek?

    Different system.

But he would have definitely lost under the old system too because he has no tape this year.

Right now, I actually do have Rhys winning this. Spacey won SAG but he doesn’t really have a tape and it doesn’t seem like the Emmys are that head-over-heels for Mr. Robot.

Rhys doesn’t have much of a tape. Tapes don’t matter anymore anyways. Why do people look to Kyle Chandler every time someone’s predicting a surprise winner? The dude was at least second most likely to win. It’s not like he came out of no where.

I actually think that Kyle Chandler will pull a Kyle Chandler and win again.

Anyway the race seems very open as of now, I think basically everyone of them, except maybe Schreiber, has a good chance of taking home the prize.

Thats not what I heard. Tim Olyphant was nominated for the brilliant second season of Justified and he was in second place for taken the emmy. At least that what I heard.

I doubt Olyphant got second in votes considering how middling his submission was and that he was dropped the following year and never got nominated again. Don’t see what that has to do with this thread however.

The new system actually helps Rhys, because he doesn’t have much of a submission. Maybe just enough voters feel some guilt for not nominating The Americans all these years and that translates to one or two wins. But Russell is probably more likely to benefit from that since she’ll have the better submission and more bait in whatever they submit for series.

It’s not about the tapes anymore. It’s about popularity, as can be seen from this year’s nominations. I think Spacey is the smart choice. His performance has become iconic, he is considered a veteran, beloved in the industry (two SAG Awards for this role) and there is no one else in this category more overdue for an Emmy.

And if one of The Americans’ stars is to win, I hope it will be Keri Russell. She actually has a great episode submission (“The Magic of David Copperfield V: The Statue of Liberty Disappears”).

Rami should be thankful for the nomination. I don’t see him winning.

I actually think Schrieber is as formidable a threat to Spacey as Rami Malek. Don’t underestimate Ray Donovan with its surprise Directing nomination.

Spacey is only overdue if you don’t think HoC and his performance are utter crap. But yes, he’s a safe bet, though hardly a lock.

Like the others have said, he doesn’t have much of a tape. The new system, though, will help him. The Americans is obviously popular with Emmy voters this year. With that being said, though, I think that Drama Lead Actor is between Spacey and Malek.

This is the make or break year for Spacey and Wright. Will the Emmys award them both? I hope so.
Wright had an incredible tape last year, but she couldn’t win over the buzz that was Davis. Davis still has buzz and could easily repeat, but I hope Wright can pull off the win. She had an incredible season.

But in an competitive category, they might go for someone else, and give the HOC to Spacey instead who is in an easier category.

    It’s tough.

I don’t see how Spacey loses this. The acting branch is obsessed with his show. Anyone else is wishful thinking.

McConaughey lost when he was favored. Many people respect Kevin Spacey without actually liking him. And it helps to be liked as well as respected when people are voting for you. Many aren’t interested in him being smug at the podium.
