Everyone knows the main event at the Emmys is really Sound Mixing, amirite? 😉
Seriously, though, there are tons of Creative Arts categories, and a bunch of them really are more interesting than some of the ones in the primetime telecast.
I for one am excited about Short Format Entertainment Program with Billy Eichner, Zach Galifianakis, Key & Peele, and even Katy Perry in the mix (no offense to Katy Perry, but please not Katy Perry).
Best Interactive Program is exciting because I regularly watch most of those shows and I love the Emmys consistent effort to keep current on the way viewers consume media in the information age.
And then there’s the documentary categories. I love me some nonfiction, though I still need to catch up on a couple of them.August 21, 2015 at 9:40 am #358792
I’ll come back to this later, but from a macro-perspective, I am very interested to see if ‘Game of Thrones’ can rack up a ton of wins, and beat ‘The West Wing’ S1’s Emmy haul to have the most wins for a TV show in Emmy history.August 21, 2015 at 9:59 am #358793
Children’s Program. Will Degrassi finally win? Will Girl Meets World win? Or will the Nick News special on coming out win? Those are my top 3 in the category.
Music Direction is also a category that has always interested me. Programs like Peter Pan and Elf are nominated, but the Stevie Wonder tribute will probably win. Also Music and Lyrics is pretty interesting. Will Sons of Anarchy finally win an Emmy? Or the Lopez clan?August 21, 2015 at 10:33 am #358794

Guess Actress in Drama and Comedy….August 21, 2015 at 11:58 am #358796
Animated Program, to see if Over the Garden Wall (one of the most acclaimed animated projects of the last few years) might take it.
There are a couple of fun nominees in the voiceover categories. It would be great to see John Roberts honored (because Bob’s Burgers love is always good) or to see Tress MacNeille given recognition after decades in the industry. I probably couldn’t keep count of all the voices I heard her play as a kid.August 21, 2015 at 12:47 pm #358797
I think Best Guest in a Drama is one of the most excited this year.
And also can’t wait for Oustanding Narrator and see if Anthony Mendez for Jane The Virgin is gonna winAugust 21, 2015 at 1:13 pm #358798
Chorerography. Can underdog DWTS take down the usually dominant SYTYCD?August 21, 2015 at 2:48 pm #358799
Chorerography. Can underdog DWTS take down the usually dominant SYTYCD?
Or, for that matter, will somebody notice that one of the DWTS nominations has three choreographers credited for it, even though the rules say no entry is allowed more than two?
For that matter, will this year break the streak of there not being more than one choreography winner? Having more than one used to be quite common – in fact, there were years where the rules pretty much mandated two (one for series, and one for specials) – but there haven’t been multiple winners since 2011. (And if there is, will whoever is covering the awards for GoldDerby for get that it’s a juried award and call it a “tie”…again?)August 25, 2015 at 3:57 am #358800
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama/Outstanding Guest Actor in a ComedyAugust 25, 2015 at 11:14 am #358801
I will be most excited if Parks and Recreation wins Sound Mixing since it would be the show’s first Emmy win ever.August 25, 2015 at 3:16 pm #358802

‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ could surprise and win more Emmys than anything else in 2015. You heard it here first.August 26, 2015 at 2:48 pm #358805
This is a little bit of off-topic I don’t see how this new system can change the results in the craft categories. We know tapes became less relevant this year in the Acting categories simply because there is no way one voter can sit and watch 100 submitted tapes altogether. But this is not the issue with the majority of Academy where most branches have only 3-4 specific categories for themselves. And I think they can spend their 10-15 hours for an event that happens once in a year. And if they can’t, one would wonder why then even bother to paying the membership fee and be a member of the TV academy. I also don’t think the tape system has mattered much in the past for craft categories. Their group of members were already too small comparing to acting branch. And that number only divided into only 2 groups for judging panels not 20 like acting. So I truly think they mostly represented their all peers. To assume that GoT and AHS will sweep the Creative Arts this year, just because they are popular does not make sense at all, although I also agree the latter has a great shot at claiming more than one prize in the creative ceremony; but not because it is deserving or anything, it’s just that some categories look like they were invented to award inferior projects. And especially in a year so cringeworthy for miniseries like this won’t be a hard task for them. I mean, “Outstanding Hairstyling in a Limited Series or Movie”, “Outstanding Makeup in a Limited Series or Movie”, really? Can these go anywhere else? They also can win Cinematography considering they only have to fight with Houdini, Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe and Bessie.
