I doubt I am the only one who lives the Creative Arts aspect of the Emmys. It sucks that these very important categories are not presented on the main show, but…

Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation

    Outstanding Special Visual Effects

Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Supporting Role

Outstanding Art Direction For A Multi-Camera Series

Outstanding Art Direction For A Single-Camera Series

Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series

Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series

Outstanding Cinematography For A Multi-Camera Series

Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series

    Outstanding Costumes For A Series

Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series

Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series

Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series

Outstanding Hairstyling For A Single-Camera Series

    Outstanding Makeup For A Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic)

Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Miniseries, Movie Or A Special

Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score)

Outstanding Sound Editing For A Series

I actually think this is the year Mad Men could pull off a costume design win. This year they have worked a great variety of color, much more than in previous years, thanks to the late-60’s period the show is in now, and that could play enough of a factor for it win. I think the probalem MM had all previous seasons is that only the women’s costumes really stood out. This season the wardrobe for men has been flashier, and this could really help them out.

Nah, Casting always has to be with Boardwalk Empire. THE best casting in television.

As for Mad Men and costume design. Nomination yes, but win, no. The costuming on Game of Thrones is just THE best on television.

Quick question: I’ve always wondered what is «good casting»? Does the Emmy award in this category award WHO they cast or HOW they cast?

Does anyone think Bates Motel will get any creative arts tech nominations?

I have actually been predicting Mad Men to miss costumes this year.  The category already dropped them and everyone who was nominated last year is still eligible.

At least Mad Men will get its hairstyling win back this year after Downton Abbey upset it last year.

I don’t see Mad Men snubbed this year. The costumes have taken a very different direction this season, showing the radical transition between years, and I’m sure the costuming branch is paying attention.

I don’t see anything spectacular about the costumes on GOT. They are there just for broad characterization and period/world setting. Mad Men uses costumes to build on characterization and themes and symbolism. To me, that’s a more interesting and impressive use of costumes.

You say that as if establishing world/setting with the level of detail and variety in costumes that Game of Thrones has is easy.  It’s not.

I’m not saying it’s easy. I appreaciate and admire the effort of doing something like that. But I also feel like that kind of thign often overshadows costumes working to actually develop and reflect the character’s behavior and psyche. It’s a massive undertaking to do the costumes for Game Of Thrones, but the level of subtle elaboration that goes into creating the sense of style of each character in Mad Men isso high, I find it says more about the role costumes play on a story beyond setting than GOT.

The Mad Men costumes have been more buzz-worthy this season, especially with outfits like that Sharon Tate knockoff, but when have bad seasons of shows gained nominations over past ones?  If anything, Mad Men will be losing nominations, just because it has been on for so long and people are becoming fed up with it.
