Here is the slugfest that I recorded with Charlie and Amanda today in which we went through our predictions in all twenty-four categories.

I saw it. I’m surprised you mentioned the critically-acclaimed Night Manager, All The Way, and Roots (You didn’t even like Roots?!) getting in over American Crime as a “snub”, but what about Killing Reagan and the mixed-reviewed Confirmation getting in over BOTH American Crime and The Night Of?! THOSE were a weird inclusions. Even though I know The Abominable Bride didn’t work for you like it really did for me, can we at least agree it would have been a more credible nominee than a TV Movie based off a book by Bill O’ Reilly?

Also, no mention of Trevor Noah possibly winning for The Daily Show? True, he started off really terrible, yet he’s finally found his footing recently, and has been on a roll these past couple weeks!

I refuse to believe that Samantha Bee can win, she and the show has fallen below the bottom of the barrel the past few months. Her show has gone the exact opposite trajectory of Noah’s, where the first couple episodes were good, with some outright fantastic standouts, like the “Libertarian Convention” episode. But now the writing for Full Frontal has just gotten consistently stupider and more pro-establishment in its obnoxious simplicity. I have nothing against playing to the crowd, but with (criminally snubbed here!) Bill Maher and Seth Meyers they have such clever and often insightful material to back up their obvious biases. With Sam Bee and Full Frontal, not at all. Another, arguably bigger issue is that Sam herself has gotten more hypocritically self-righteous in her delivery of the material. Ugh, where’s Tina Fey and Amy Poehler when you need them, to deliver some one-liners in a non-clunky manner, that makes you laugh and NOT want to throw your remote through the TV? “sigh” What a waste. 🙁

Also, am I the only one bothered by Survivor getting snubbed for Reality-Competition Program? And is Son of Zorn REALLY an Animated Series if just 1 of the characters is animated in an entirely live-action environment with live actors?

What are the odds of Forest Whitaker pulling off an upset for Roots? I know that’s probably wishful thinking, but he is an Oscar-winning actor, and they might want to give him a consolation prize for his Emmy snub. Or they’ll give it to Lane Garrison as a not funny, (and actually quite racist) joke. 😐

Finally, no matter what wins or snubs we agree or disagree with, can we agree these Mandy Pantinkin Awards are now a joke that shouldn’t be taken seriously, especially with the loss of most of their reputable members? But hey, at least good ol jailbird T.J. Miller is getting his opinion out there for the world to see! LMFAO 🙂

I felt that we had spent enough time shitting on them in our nominations reactions video that doing it again would be excessive, so I just focused on providing insight on who would win. For example, I only mentioned All the Way, The Night Manager and Roots being nominated over American Crime as a counterargument to our confidence in predicting Regina King to win over nominated supporting actresses from those programs.

I do feel like I hear more about Trevor Noah these days than the rest of them. Son of Zorn is another weird category placement. We missed those two!

eastwest’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan prediction is tempting me. This group did award Melissa McBride after all. It is safe to say that he has more buzz than any nominee in this category ever.

Here is my report on records that could be broken this year:

The Critics’ Choice Awards ceremony this Sunday with be their seventh recognizing achievements in television and many records stand to be broken. There have been six different winners for Best Comedy Series, so Modern Family or Silicon Valley are both in contention to be the first to win a second. They still have a long way to go though to become the Critics’ Choice most-awarded program, as Archer has four trophies for Best Animated Series. In fact, it has never lost that race, as that award has only been given out for the last five years and Archer was ineligible for the fifth, as it did not air within the eligibility period. (Animated series were eligible only for Best Comedy Series the first year and Archer was the lone animated nominee.) If Archer loses, it might find itself sharing its title as most-awarded program with The Voice, which has won three awards for Best Reality-Competition Series and is nominated for a fourth.

Allison Janney is the most-awarded performer in Critics’ Choice short history of awarding television. She won Best Drama Guest Performer for Masters of Sex in 2014, as well as her first two of three Best Comedy Supporting Actress nominations for Mom; she is nominated again for the latter this year. She remains the only performer to have won for multiple programs, but might not be after Sunday. Two-time Best Drama Actor Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, 2012–2013) is nominated for Movie/Limited Actor (All the Way) and two-time Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story, 2013 & 2015) is up for Movie/Limited Actress (The People v. O.J. Simpson).

Ellen Burstyn is the performer who has been nominated for the most series: Political Animals (Movie/Limited Supporting Actress, 2013), Flowers in the Attic (Movie/Limited Supporting Actress, 2014), Mom (Comedy Guest Performer, 2015) and House of Cards (Drama Guest Performer, 2016). She is yet to win, but is not the most-nominated performer without a win. That dubious distinction goes to Walton Goggins, a past nominee for Justified (Drama Supporting Actor, 2011 & 2013–2015) and Sons of Anarchy (Drama Guest Performer, 2014–2015). His Critics’ Choice trophy case will remain empty for another year, as he was snubbed this year in Comedy Supporting Actor for Vice Principals. He will have another opportunity for that performance next year, as well as in Drama Actor for Six.

Allison Janney is not the only one hoping to win a third time for a single role. Also eligible to become the first three-time-winning performance are Andre Braugher (Comedy Supporting Actor, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Comedy Actress, Veep), Tatiana Maslany (Drama Actress, Orphan Black) and Jeffrey Tambor (Comedy Actor, Transparent).

Among the records set in the nominations last month was the shortest performance ever nominated by Critics’ Choice, at two and a half minutes of screen time by Liam Neeson (Comedy Guest Performer, Inside Amy Schumer). Jimmy Kimmel Live! is the only program that has been nominated all seven times in a program category by Critics’ Choice; it is yet to win Best Talk Show. Michael J. Fox (Drama Guest Performer) is the tenth performer nominated from The Good Wife, which is the most nominated program in Critics’ Choice history. It is the only other program that has been nominated all seven editions of Critics’ Choice, albeit not always in the program category. This is its final year, so it finishes with twenty-four nominations, including two wins thus far.
