I don’t think the Emmys are quite as diagrammatic as the Oscars are when it comes to how formulaic their top winners are, but there are still some patterns that emerge when it comes to what the TV academy favors. If you had to design a show specifically to win all the Emmys, what would it be? Who would star? Who would make it?

A drama on HBO starring Emmy Rossum and Chloe Grace Moretz. It will take place in the 1950s. A golden age for Hollywoods films. With people like Doris Day, Judy Garland, and of course Marilyn Monroe being icons of the day. Emma Thompson will have a supporting turn in this as the woman who takes the sisters (Rossum and Moretz) in while the pursue their careers in the booming Hollywood. One thing they don’t know about Hollywood at this point is that the newly colorful films and actors being lauded don’t truly represent how dark Hollywood actually is at the time.

Anna Torv plays Maya, an addicted who participates in N.A meetings, basically the show centers on N.A. meetings and as the first season goes we get flashbacks about what happened to Maya’s character, Michael Imperioli plays Jason, also an addicted who happens to be her N.A sponsor and Diane Keaton plays her mother.    Also leading the show along side Torv is Michael Cudlitz , the person in charge of the meetings where all the show happens.

Airs on NetFlix, episodes lenght and format like Hbo’s “In Treatment”.

A small group of professors working at a prestigious university fight the corruption and scandals present throughout. While the university seems to be running smoothly on the surface, the school’s clout is dropping and the administration is cutting corners. The professors know about the darkness going on behind closed doors, but they must fight and negotiate with school administrators while also trying to keep their jobs. What’s keeping them there? The belief that they can make the university great again. But some of our seemingly heroic professors aren’t so heroic after all.

Our band of professors includes Lupita Nyong’o, Zeljko Ivanek, Michael Emerson, Jeff Goldblum and Allison Janney. Administrators include Paul Giamatti, Daryl Hannah, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

THE INSTITUTE, a 13-episode drama on HBO, created by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

Ok I never talked about this with anyone before so this is a first. 4 or 5 years ago (I was 17/18) I “wrote” several scripts of an imaginary tv show about college for various reasons. First, I had just got into college and was still both fascinated and slightly terrified by the environment. I wanted to write about that. Second, The Social Network had just come out and the whole college atmosphere was pretty similar to my own, almost dark and impersonal at times. People around me would never stop saying “oh college is the best goddamn period of your life, seize it until the very last day” or “you won’t get those days back again, enjoy them to the max”. I wanted to explore that idea, of what’s beneath that surface of partying, intense studying, fraternities/sororities, academic clubs and ultimately the feeling of loneliness one can get in such a big crowded environment. Plus we got all those shows (Friends, Seinfeld, The West Wing) with very intense friendships forjed in college and we never got a decent show about the genesis of those (and other) relationships. I wrote it as dark and gritty as could be so it could only be aired in HBO (yeah go big or go home!).

I don’t know if that would score at the Emmys at all but I like the idea of it. The “””show””” was called Backwards by the way and it featured 6/7 main characters, all students from different parts of America and different cultural backgrounds.

You guys pitching HBO shows, make sure you remember to meet your brothels quota for the week. People won’t know it’s an HBO drama if no one discusses the plot in a brothel. 😉

Aww man, you’re right. Paul Giamatti frequents a local brothel and spends a whole bunch of the school fund on hookers and blow. He has a secret affair with one of the hookers, who also happens to be a student at the school, who ironically only took this job because she is having trouble paying for rising school costs. Emmy please!

Modern-day corporate Count of Monte Cristo with a shot of Wolf of Wall Street. Heir to a corporation (Idris Elba) gets framed and sent to prison for fraud/extortion, breaks out years later, and with reconstructive surgery and a new skillset returns in disguise as an entrepreneur to get revenge on the three people (Rose McGowan, Gael Garcia Bernal, Keith David) who betrayed him and stole his company, including his best friend (McGowan, trendy gender-flip) who also stole his girlfriend (Katee Sackhoff). He has flashbacks of his mentor (Ken Watanabe) in prison who primed him into some monologuing business genius. Riz Ahmed appears in a Jacopo-like role as a small business owner/partner and invent modern sideplots/dark secrets for everybody (somebody’s an alcoholic!). Written by Christopher McQuarrie, pilot directed by Derek Cianfrance. Air it on whoever buys it, maybe Showtime.

Haha I mean they’ll nominate Emma Thompson for anything. Just give her all the nude scenes in my show and she’ll be a consecutive winner. AYO

A show where everyone is good-looking and sleeping with each other for an hour. Instant Emmy!

That sounds like it’s from The CW so the academy will just ignore it.

Sounds good but way more like an acclaimed-but-snubbed show than anything that would ever be winner. Sort of like In Treatment.

That depends, when I wrote this just to fool around I imagined it as a show with loads and loads of famous guest stars with oustanding centered episodes with flashbacks about each one of them, like “Orange is the New Black” , however more centered on the character of that episode and with sometime to develop the plot around the main characters. I think this would make  pretty fantastic emmy baity show.   Just imagine some emmy darlings like Jeremy Piven or Michael Emerson, Walton Goggins (eventhough he never won) playing baity characters with devastating storylines ^.-

6 new students from differents part of the world arrive to R.I.A.S (Research Institute of Applied Science) to do their doctorate degree. R.I.A.S which is located in the middle of Nowhere, is where noone is what they look. Imagine Grey´s Anatomy + Game of Thrones + The Sopranos + Mad Men.
