After ABC passed on it for a series, Lifetime has announced it is picking up Devious Maids, created by Marc Cherry (who also created Desperate Housewives) and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, who serves as the Executive Producer, for a 13 episode run beginning in 2013. Devious Maids stars Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Grant Show, and Susan Lucci.June 23, 2012 at 8:42 pm #246993
If I didn’t know Marc Cherry created it I would have thought it was a Desperate Housewives ripoff, mostly because of the title. Not surprised that Cherry would go after the same type of show that made him millions. That’s a pretty good cast though and I’m sure it’ll find a good auidence on Lifetime.June 23, 2012 at 8:46 pm #246994
I am super-excited for this! VERY much looking forward to this! La Lucci is going to be on Lifetime in Primetime!June 23, 2012 at 9:29 pm #246995
Glad that this is happening. Even though the new logo for Lifetime is obnoxious, they have become more than “Meredith Baxter in Raped By a Clown”. I do hate that there has been no efforts to get my “GCB” anywhere though.June 24, 2012 at 11:22 am #246996
I agree eastwest, I loved GCB, but I think most involved realize at this point it’s a lost cause. It had too much controversy attached to it. Lifetime is a pretty conservative network so I knew they’d never touch a show like GCB.June 24, 2012 at 12:31 pm #246997

One series throws that statement off: The Client List.
I am ecstatic that Lifetime has picked this up! Passing it up was not a smart move at all by ABC. They could have placed it on Sundays at 9 or 10 with Revenge and it would have been a powerful combo. Oh well; ABC’s loss is Lifetime’s gain.July 4, 2012 at 8:15 pm #246999
Recently learned that one of my neighbors is playing one of the maids, after playing one of the girl friends on the final season of Entourage. I thought she looked vaguely familiar.July 4, 2012 at 8:42 pm #247000
I’m also very surprised ABC passed this up. When Marc Cherry first was shopping Desperate Housewives around for a home, NBC, CBS, FOX, Showtime, and even HBO passed on it. Finally he came to ABC. That was in 2005, which was, IMO, the greatest year of television for ABC in a long time (Desperate Housewives, Commander in Chief, Lost, and Grey’s Anatomy all premiered on the network that year!).
I hope this becomes a huge success!July 5, 2012 at 3:14 am #247001
Cannot wait to see it! Glad it found home at Lifetime. It’s gonna bring them the ratings. The same happened with Drop Dead Diva when FOX passed on it and Lifetime took it. Now DDD is one of my favourite shows on the air.July 5, 2012 at 10:06 am #247002
^ I agree. I’m actually glad that Lifetime got Drop Dead Diva, because I think had it gone to FOX, they would have canceled after the first season, just like all the networks seem to do with new shows these days.
I also think Reba should have went to Lifetime. It gets great viewership there even today thanks to re-runs, and I think it would still be on the air had it gone to Lifetime after The CW canceled it.July 5, 2012 at 7:36 pm #247003

I think it’s a very smart move. I’ll be shocked if this is a QUALITY show. It just seems like Cherry trying to capture lightning in a bottle again and ABC would have looked the same way. I think the public would have ignored it on a network. It’ll find a perfect small audience on Lifetime.July 6, 2012 at 8:09 pm #247004

Actually, it would seem that Reba is leaving Lifetime this fall. The rerun rights have been picked up by CMT which will start airing it in September. I’m guessing Lifetime has let it’s option lapse. However, it’s entirely possible it’ll stay there and air on both networks in some sort of shared-rights deal.June 24, 2013 at 6:32 am #247005June 24, 2013 at 7:31 am #247006
I saw the Pilot last week, I don’t know how I got it because I thought this week would be the second episode.
The show is a bit of a letdown, it really doesn’t offer anything that wasn’t done on Desperate Housewives 9 years ago. It starts with a murder as that show did, there’s a mystery behind the murder…again, nobody will talk about it (in DH’s case they just didn’t know), and the show is broken down in the same exact way between these women.
Some people in the cast are as good as they’ve been in their past tv shows, I think Judy Reyes will always have a soft spot when it comes to viewers who have watched it before thanks to Scrubs and her other appearances, same with Ana Ortiz who was excellent on Betty and deserved better after that show ended, Dania Ramirez isn’t as annoying as she usually is, Rosselyn Sanchez is the weak link for me here, clearly playing the Longoria/Gabrielle card she missed when she lost the role in DH. The other girl, I’ve never seen her before.
It’s way too much carbon copy of Desperate Housewives with lesser writing even though it’s from the same person, even the posters are identical, but the Pilot did end in a way that sort of makes you want to come back at least for one more episode. So at least there’s that.
