Frasier is one of only two television programs (the other being Modern Family) to win five consecutive best series awards. Frasier won Best Comedy Series from 1994-1998, beating such shows as Mad About You, The Larry Sanders Show and 3rd Rock from the Sun. Did the show deserve to win the award that many years in a row or maybe even at all?March 17, 2017 at 2:26 pm #1202039345
Hell no. No show deserves to win that many in a row in my opinion. The Larry Sanders Show should have a couple of Fraiser’s wins.March 17, 2017 at 2:38 pm #1202039351

My comment got erased. Nice GoldDerby…nice.
What did you say?
Can you see the comment? It says I “already said that” when I try to paste the comment again. But I can’t see it.
I said NO!, by the way.March 17, 2017 at 5:39 pm #1202039417
I would say no. There were too many other shows deserving of those wins. I’d say at most, Frasier deserved to win maybe twice.
Here is who I would have awarded during the years that “Frasier” was nominated:
1994 Emmys: Frasier
1995 Emmys: Friends
1996 Emmys: Seinfeld
1997 Emmys: Mad About You
1998 Emmys: Frasier
1999 Emmys: Ally McBeal
2000 Emmys: Will & Grace
2001 Emmys: Sex and The CityMarch 17, 2017 at 7:57 pm #1202039464
It deserved to win some of those 5 Emmys, Frasier is a show that many people here haven’t even seen, probably won’t watch it ever, I was once like that, but reruns forced me to watch it because of the time it aired and I loved it. People should watch that show. But Seinfeld was deserving of more than just their single Best Comedy Series win. It had some amazing years after their 1992 win. So NO!, it didn’t deserve to win those 5 awards mainly because of Seinfeld, which lost for Season 7 for example, with The Soup Nazi, The Rye and George and Susan’s relationship.
As for the other nominees: I wouldn’t have given Mad About You or even 3rd Rock (two favorites of mine from those days) the best series win ever. I would’ve given Friends the win in 1999 and I think it would’ve been a top contender in 1998 (not even nominated) for The Embryos alone, but 1999 seems like a more logical win for them (with …Where Everybody Finds Out among others). I suppose somebody will say Larry Sanders deserved to win at least once, I only saw a few episode of season 1 a couple of years ago. Never finished. I have to asume Home Improvement never deserved to win either.
Ally McBeal stopped Frasier so that’s nice that it won and it’s also nice that that’s when it stopped too. Will & Grace is a perfect winner for its second season, Sex and the City, Raymond, Friends and Arrested Development were worthy winners against later seasons of Frasier, including those last four years when it wasn’t even nominated.March 17, 2017 at 8:24 pm #1202039473
Here’s the thing. As much as I like Frasier and think it’s a good show, Seinfeld was a once-in-a-lifetime show that deserved at least another Comedy Series win, even in the later seasons which I think were better than ever, and I know that is a somewhat unpopular opinion. I would’ve been happy if Frasier won like 3 and Seinfeld won 2 in that time frame.March 17, 2017 at 11:38 pm #1202039505
I would say no, but Frasier’s casting director should have won several Emmy awards.
I would say that Roseanne should have won Outstanding Comedy Series in 1993 not Seinfeld. Then Seinfeld should have won in 1994 and probably again in 1996 or 1997. Frasier probably deserved at least 2 wins for Outstanding Comedy Series.March 18, 2017 at 1:58 am #1202039578
Seinfeld, Friends and The Larry Sanders Show were eqaully deserving in some of those years…Frasier was great but the others were too.March 18, 2017 at 8:45 am #1202039757
I’m a huge Frasier fan and even I would concede five consecutive victories was a tad much. Looking back at the years the show was up in Comedy Series, I would’ve voted for…
’94 – Frasier
’95 – Frasier
’96 – Seinfeld
’97 – Frasier
’98 – The Larry Sanders Show
’99 – Ally McBeal
’00 – Will & Grace
’01 – Will & Grace

Friends shockingly didn’t get nominated for its third and fourth seasons (considered by many fans like myself to be among the show’s best). If they had been nominated, I honestly think they could have dethroned Frasier in those years, even though Frasier still produced many of its greatest episodes during that time period as well.March 18, 2017 at 11:41 am #1202039891
Season 4 of Friends was great…Phoebe pregnancy, the all Ross/Rachel/Emily/Joshua…they probably should won that year.March 18, 2017 at 11:56 am #1202039896
Lisa Kudrow did win a well-deserved Emmy for that season. And then Jennifer Aniston would win a few years later for season 8 (where Rachel is pregnant) , which is also the season that the show FINALLY won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
