Since the show is pretty much done when it comes to Emmy wins, do you think Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright deserved to win any of their 5 acting nominations for House of Cards? Were they considered front runners any of those years?
Let’s recap their 5 acting nominations and the respective winners each year:
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Kevin Spacey)
Lost against: Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom
Lost against: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Lost against: Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Lost against: Rami Malek, Mr. Robot
Lost against: Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Robin Wright)
Lost against: Claire Danes, Homeland
Lost against: Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Lost against: Viola Davis, How to Get Away with Murder
Lost against: Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black
Lost against: Elisabeth Moss, The Handmaid’s TaleNovember 5, 2017 at 9:50 am #1202402566
It hurts me to say Kevin Spacey deserved to win for season 1, but as much as I love Robin Wright and Claire as a character none of those times she deserved to win over any of the winners.November 5, 2017 at 10:05 am #1202402571
I don’t know if they deserved to beat those people and their tapes, who exactly needed to loose for them to win, but to me, yes, they’ve given Emmy winning performances, with Emmy winning characters. Specially Wright in general and Spacey in the earlier seasons.November 5, 2017 at 10:50 am #1202402608
Spacey should have won for S1. For S2, though that was between McConaughey and Cranston, I think he’d have had an outside shot if he submitted the premiere, but he went with the finale. Robin Wright has not deserved to win any year.November 5, 2017 at 10:55 am #1202402609
Claire is borderline supporting so if Elisabeth Moss didn’t win for “Mad Men”, Wright was never really winning either (and she apparently wasn’t submitting that well). I personally wouldn’t give Emmy to Kevin Spacey for that role as I consider him too hammy and over-the-top. People who won over him were MUCH better, everyone out of those 5. I guess the year when Jeff Daniels won was the one when Spacey had the most steam with first season. Then Cranston was undeniable, then Hamm did benefit from new voting system and then Spacey became filler, really.
Glad he never won for that role. I find him very talented and I’m ok with his Oscar wins but it was not him but Corey Stoll and, to much lesser extent, Kate Mara who kept me with this show. When they were killed off almost at the same time, I was out too.

Yes, they both deserved to win at least once.November 5, 2017 at 11:56 am #1202402618
If you consider the other nominees, year after year, I think there was always a better one in their category. BUT, merely considering their own performances, they both were deserving of an Emmy – maybe two, in the case of Wright.November 5, 2017 at 12:53 pm #1202402625
Yes, in particular Spacey. Such a wasted amazing performance. Wright was very good, but not the best in her category.November 5, 2017 at 1:14 pm #1202402633
They’re going to award Robin Wright next year. They will want to show how anti-Spacey they are. Mark my words.November 5, 2017 at 1:36 pm #1202402648
Spacey shouldn’t have won at all. He shouldn’t have even been nominated past season 2. Its a crime that he took up a slot this year that should have been occupied by either Justin Theroux or Freddie Highmore.
Wright never was my personal winner, but I wouldn’t have mind if she won for season 3 in 2015.November 5, 2017 at 2:07 pm #1202402665

If they wanted to be anti-Spacey wouldn’t they just shut out the show completely? Honest question
You don’t know how industry works. It’s full of bitter nasty people and everyone knows how much Spacey wanted that Emmy so by giving it to Robin when he was axed from the show would be like spitting in his face.
