I bet Homeland goes with “Q&A” and “Beirut Is Back.”

My predictions in this category in no particular order are:

    – Homeland (Q&A/Beruit is Back)
    – Breaking Bad (Dead Freight/51)
    – A Boardwalk Empire episode (I don’t watch this but it is going for the hat trick here)
    – House of Cards (Chapter 1)

    And in 5th place I predict;
    – Game of Thrones (Kissed by Fire/ the upcoming Michelle MacLaren episode/episode 9) but only if they wisely submit OR
    – A Mad Men one (again I dont watch this show)

I think the first three are definate locks.

-Game of Thrones 3×09 The Rains of Castamere will surely be the best directed.

Can I be honest? I don’t mean to be unpleasnt, and I have to catch up with the show, granted, but I never felt the directing in Justified was more than competent. The writing has always been the great element of the series, and while the direction doesn’t hurt it, it also doesn’t take it to another level. I’ll eventually watch “Decoy”, but considering the great directing that so many shows have, I feel it would have to be amazing and kinda unprecedented. I’d say the same thing about The Good Wife too.

    I’d go with:

Breaking Bad – “Fifty-One”, “Dead Freight”, “Say My Name”, “Gliding Over All”

Homeland – “Beirut Is Back”, “Q&A”

    Hannibal – “Apéretif”, “Amuse-Bouche”, “Coquilles”

    Treme – “The Greatest Love”

I thought the standout Game of Thrones episode so far this season was episode 4, And Now His Watch Has Ended. Does anyone agree??

Anyway, I’m betting the show will be nominated, and probably for one of the last three episodes of the season. Hoping the showrunners, producers, and HBO are smarter with the submissions than last year, as Game of Thrones should be nominated in this category. So many shows now try to imitate what it does and come nowhere close to capturing the feel of the show.

We spoke a lot about the directing category in the Drama Series thread…buried there somewhere. We had some good conversations about Homeland’s best-directed episodes, as well as Breaking Bad, the issues of character (Q&A from Homeland and Fifty One from Breaking Bad) vs. plot-driven episodes (Beirut is Back–my favorite directed episode I’ve seen this year and Dead Freight) and what would stand out most in this category. Also, the presence of a movie director and what would be most competitive in beating a big name, be it flashy direction or great directed performances. One more thing: pilot episodes tend to get in this category, so depending on the love for new shows like The Americans and The Newsroom and House of Cards, at least one should make it. And I agree, Boardwalk Empire is likely to show up here as well based on its success in the past two years. This is a very competitive race and I’m very excited to see what episodes are put forward by each show for nomination consideration.

“Chaos” (“Southland”), directed by Christopher Chulack

Stunning, stunning work all through this episode. It’ll be shameful when it’s snubbed at the Emmys.
