This film comes to mind more often with “Suffragette” coming out in theaters this fall. “Iron Jawed Angels” premiered in 2004 and dramatized the women’s suffrage movement in the US. Its big hook was that it told a period story with contemporary music, and I loved its verve. I think it’s one of HBO’s most underappreciated films (partly because it was competing for Emmys and attention the same year as “Angels in America”) and one of Hilary Swank‘s best performances.
Did anybody here love it as much as I did? Looking back, I see it did way better at the Gold Derby TV Awards in terms of nominations than it did at the Emmys (including bids for Emmy snubbed Swank, Julia Ormond, Frances O’Connor, and TV Movie).
