Downton Abbey was snubbed for best drama series for the BAFTA TV awards but Maggie Smith was included this time round. Other snubs include Page Eight in the acting categories, Birdsong, Sherlock & Great Expectations in Mini Series with The Hour & The Shadow Line also missing from the drama series category
The Downton Abbey snub gives me pause for how things might shake up on this side of the pond. While I think the show is deserving of a series nod despite what the general concensous is dubbing a weaker season, this is definitly a potential sign for concern. I am hoping the hot buzz that it had over here this yr., will be enough to get it in.
I think this snub is well-deserved. The quality drop betweens Seasons 1 and 2 is disconcerting.
Meanwhile, these nominations make me want to catch up on Sherlock, Page Eight, and The Hour.
Edit: And there will certainly be people here who are extremely miffed that the BAFTA TV Awards nominated Modern Family for International Programme. I could be wrong, but I think it is the only American series at all included on the list.
No way. “Downton Abbey” was one of, if not, the best thing on television
last year. So, it winning anything was much deserved. I agree that the
category is ludicrous but it did allow for greatness to be rewarded.
