If there was a ceremony held for the best Drama Series and performances for the last decade (lets say 2002-2012) who would be nominated in each category of six nominees and would would take home the golden statue? Include snubbed performances only if you truely believe they would have been nominated against past nominees and victors

Lauren Ambrose would not get in, I’m pretty confident of that.  I’m also highly doubtful that Six Feet Under the series and Frances Conroy would get in either.

I’ll argue until I am blue in the face that “Justified” is one of the most underrated shows on television. And although it seems like forever and a day since The West Wing was on television (went off the air in 2006), it was still making quality episodes in its final years. Here would be my all-decade list:

    Drama Series
    – The Sopranos
    – Breaking Bad
    – Mad Men
    – The West Wing
    – Justified
    – The Wire

    Lead Actor
    – Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
    – James Gandolfini, The Sopranos
    – Michael C. Hall, Dexter
    – Timothy Olyphant, Justified
    – Martin Sheen, The West Wing
    – John Hamm, Mad Men

    Lead Actress
    – Edie Falco, The Sopranos
    – Glenn Close, Damages
    – Allison Janney, The West Wing
    – Elizabeth Moss, Mad Men
    – Claire Danes, Homeland
    – Frances Conroy, Six Feet Under

    Supporting Actor
    – Michael Imperioli, The Sopranos
    – Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
    – Giancarlo Espotio, Breaking Bad
    – John Slattery, Mad Men
    – Walton Goggins, Justified
    – John Spencer, The West Wing

    Supporting Actress
    – Lorraine Bracco, The Sopranos
    – Margo Martindale, Justified
    – Drea de Mateo, The Sopranos
    – Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
    – Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
    – Stockard Channing, The West Wing

Sorry. I am such a Grey’s hater. Lol. I do love Sandra Oh as an actress, but I just couldn’t put her in there amongst some of these others. And Maggie Smith is the only person I put from DA because she’s just winning Emmy after Emmy. She’ll probably win again this year. She plays a fairly one-dimensional character, but at least she does it well.

you’re completely forgetting the shield, michael chiklis, and walton goggins. while goggins is terrific on justified, i think he was better on the shield as shane vendrell, one of the best characters even in the last decade

I feel like some of these lists side a bit too much with personal taste. As much as I love Justified and The Wire, the fact that neither could even earn nominations for drama series forces me to think that Emmy voters wouldn’t likely care about them in a commendation of the decade. Same goes for The Shield.

I’ve never watched The West Wing so couldn’t include it in my list. Also Justified is a great show but it struggles to get in with nomination today where its not even against some of the bigger finished shows. Although now I think Martindale would beat Smart

Something to think about here is if these Decade Emmys would be given out in addition to the annual ones or if they exist in an alternate reality in which the Emmys are only given out every ten years.  In the latter scenario, many smaller supporting roles might get passed over.

That’s something to think about, an award where only the last 10 years emmy winners would be put on a voting pannel, that would be cool.

You’re probably right about my Justified picks, with the exception of Martindale. I think her single-season performance was one of the best on television in the past 10 years and rightfully earned her an Emmy win. Olyphant and Goggins only have each received one nomination. So maybe replace them with Laurie and one of the “Lost” boys.

If it was only held once every ten years which ‘smaller roles’ do you think would be left out? I think the smaller performances eg. Martindale and Espotio would make the cut because they are fresher in the voters mind.
