    Drama Series

    Will Win: Mad Men

    Spoiler: Boardwalk Empire

    Should Win: Game of Thrones

Mad Men is the clear frontrunner here.  It didn’t go down in quality and there is no spoiler as strong as Lost was last year (even The Good Wife had a better chance at winning last year than this year).  Boardwalk Empire seems to be the best chance at stopping a four-peat but it is not a lock in getting the HBO vote (Game of Thrones was not only a better series but has better tapes) and doesn’t have tapes that could compete with Mad Men.  Friday Night Lights also seems like it has a chance to upset but it couldn’t get it’s usual Casting nomination and only ended up with 4.  Mad Man, on the other hand, increased its nomination tally to 19.  The Good Wife didn’t get directing or writing nominations so it won’t win.

    Drama Directing

Will Win: Boardwalk Empire (“Boardwalk Empire”)

Spoiler: The Borgias (“The Poisened Chalice/The Assassin”)

Should Win: Boardwalk Empire (“Boardwalk Empire”)

With no Mad Men or Frank Darabont in the mix, Martin Scorsese will win in a cakewalk for his work on the Boardwalk Empire pilot.

    Drama Writing

Will Win: Mad Men (“The Suitcase”)

    Spoiler: Friday Night Lights (“Always”)

Should Win: Friday Night Lights (“Always”)

Matthew Weiner has won this category 3 years in a row and has the most acclaimed episode of the season.  He is a lock to win again.

I’ve done some research on this and unless I missed something, I think we have a good shot at some Emmy history this year:

If Mad Men wins for both Series and Writing again, it will be the only series, comedy or drama, to ever win both series and writing four consecutive years.

G’Day, Well I’m currently working through the Boarwalk Empire tapes so can’t comment on those in entirety.

For mind Mad Men has submitted perfectly. Friday Night Lights has great tapes as well. Dexter did as well as they could have but I don’t think its enough to contend for the win. And Good Wife’s tapes are a mess.

I just finished the season of Game of Thrones and didn’t really get into until after the first 2 episodes but other than that they have submitted perfectly (although don’t know how they could have done tape A any differently).

Me and my mate just started a podcast and we just did an episode looking at Game of Thrones if anyone wanted my more detailed commentary on the series (first 29 minutes is spoiler free):
