What comedy series scored big wins at the Emmys over the years with wedding episodes? Either for series wins, directing/writing wins, or even more to the point, acting wins? Or which wedding submissions did not win Emmys when everyone possibly thought they would?

I’m trying to formulate an opinion on the potential Emmy chances of JT Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet or Ed O’Neill should they all be nominated for their emotional Modern Family wedding two-parter if they submit that or anything surrounding that storyline? (Of course these are all what-if situations at present until we know who’s nominated/what their tapes are)

Lisa Kudrow won for “The One with Ross’s Wedding” (Supporting Actress, 1998)

I believe that both Doris Roberts and Brad Garrett won for the episode “Robert’s Wedding” in 2003. Also, Everybody Loves Raymond won Comedy Series for the first time that year.

Can someone explain to me Lisa Kudrow´s win for that episode? Friends is my favorite comedy show, and Kudrow was amazing and deserving of even more awards than she got, but there couldn´t have been a more mehh submission for her that year. She wasn´t even part of the actual storyline, and only briefly interacted with the cast, thus appearing only every now and then for like a 1 minute phone call. I think she was able to submitt both parts, and even though she got a bit more screentime in the first half, I don´t see how that was a winning episode for a character as classic as Phoebe. Its actually amazing to me that of all the amazing episodes/performances she had with that role, that her only emmys came from that particular irrelevan phoebe episode.

That episode doesn’t really sound like a very smart move for Ferguson as a submission, since he seems to be a pain in the ass in it… He should submit something a little more heartfelt this time I think.

Re Kudrow, I think it’s a classic Phoebe episode, and the fact that she wasn’t part of the group in London makes her stand out even more. Her phonecalls as Regina Phalange with Jennifer Saunders are hysterical, and her technique used on Rachel to ‘get over’ Ross with the photo, the chocolate and the tepid water is just again ridiculously funny IMO… So glad Kudrow got an Emmy for all her years on Friends.

I don’t understand how Lisa Kudrow could win for the wedding episodes in season 4, but not with the pitch-perfect submissions of “The One With the One Hundreth” + “The One Where Everybody Finds Out”. Also, I always thought she had won for the “The One With Phoebe’s Uterus” + “The One With the Embryos”.

^ I agree with everything you just said. Those submissions would´ve been worthier than the wedding. I also thought those were the submissions for a while because it just made sense and seemed obvious based on her storyline that season. And I didn´t know those where her season 5 submissions. If that pair is not a winner I don´t know what is. Who won btw?

^ Kristen Johnston, I believe that the episode where she changes her body with Dick’s won her the second Emmy. Kudrow and Liu (in a dramatic episode) were better, imo.

How ‘The One Where Everyone Finds Out’ did not win Kudrow an Emmy I’ll never know. She had golden submissions
