The other day the TV academy was gracious enough to give us the actual DVDs used by Emmy judges in the reality and variety categories. Marcus was good enough to plow through the disks to figure out what’s on them. Here are his reports on two categories. He’ll have the rest of the info for us soon.

Lynch might upset here. Since Bergeron won 2 years ago and Klum and Gunn did last year, I think they might be on a “New Blood” pattern.

Yep, I agree. Lynch wins. She’s the nominee who is most engaged with the players. (That’s how Probst used to win here all the time.) Lynch gets tons of face time and those exchanges are lively and fun.

And she is hilarious. Bergeron shows adding humor to their hosting duty really connects with viewers. She keeps the games alive and has great improv timing like Bergeron. Plus I think the Emmys really do love her. She was dropped from Supporting Actress and brought back last year and they don’t do that for many people. I can see her going home with Emmy number 2

Watch out for Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn repeating for “Project Runway.” They submitted the glamping episode liked I hoped/knew they would, which is a significant one where Tim uses his save for the first time ever.

Yeah I am concerned they might take it again. This is a tough category but it seems like a 3 way race.

I was underwhelmed by Heidi/Tim because the “Tim Gunn Save” felt like such an afterthought and, frankly, an excuse to win an Emmy. Jane Lynch, on the other hand, is a complete surprise and kills it in her ep submission.

It was a pretty thrilling episode and season highlight for fans of the show. The save episode might be better than what Tim and Heidi won for last year.

Can’t they finally just give it to Cat Deeley?

Also I see that SNL submitted Jimmy Fallon’s episode….I assume that helps out Jimmy fallon a lot cause he will have double the screen time and people may want to reward his new show.

Not only does his show have the advantage of making The Tonight Show franchise fresh again with HUGE ratings and buzz, but he is also fantastic in the SNL episode. I have trouble seeing him not winning esp. because they finally let go of The Daily Show.

    Thanks for these!

Could you clarify which episode Lynch submitted? Most episode guides list the “Party Boys…” episode as number two because they count the Christmas episode as the premiere of S2.

Is her submission the one with Julie Bowen and Martin Short?

Yes it’s the ‘Party Boys’ one with Bowen and Short. At imdb, it’s listed as Season 2, Episode 1 so that’s what I went with in my numbering: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3361308/

I’m starting to tear my hair out over this category. Lynch clearly has the best submission, but Tim Gunn CRIES in his episode after saving a deaf guy and per Atypical above, it’s better than their winning ep last year. Flip a coin?
