The Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K. co-created comedy series focuses on a single mother/actress, Sam (Pamela Adlon) raising three children in Los Angeles. It holds a 79 score on Metacritic, and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes so far.
I absolutely love Pamela Adlon’s work and her partnership with CK only brings good things. I can’t wait to watch this show, which starts airing tonight. Louis directs the pilot, btw.

I don’t love “Louie,” and I’m not too familiar with Pamela Adlon’s work, but the trailer made me laugh and the reviews were good, so I decided to add this to my list. I really liked the first episode. I wonder if the layout of individual, short scenes vs. an episode arc will play out the rest of the season, or if that device was just used to introduce us to the world of Sam and her children. There’s definitely some set up already with some other stories, so it’ll be interesting if every episode is quick snapshots or will focus on one main story. It was really the obvious moments that made me laugh the hardest, like the “What?” conversation in the hallway — whether you come at it from the perspective of the parent or the teenager, you get it but it still makes you laugh. I’ll definitely stick around for the season.September 13, 2016 at 5:52 pm #1201921989
I really enjoyed the pilot, I think it has great moments; even if it doesn’t tell a story in a linear way, it showcases all of the characters and its personalities. There is a lot of room for improvement, of course, but it didn’t disappointed me. I’m also glad this isn’t a “female Louie” like most thought it would be. Sure, there are some similiarities, but in the end, i felt much more optimistic than i do after watching a episode of Louie.
The critics say that it only gets better from the pilot, and that episode 4 is great (they received the first 5 episodes), so I’m looking forward to keep watching it.September 15, 2016 at 9:17 pm #1201923156
Well, I’ve seen the first two episodes, and it does feel a little bit like a female Louie to me, but that’s not a bad thing, since I do like Louie. I already dislike the two older daughters, so that might be a problem. But I loved Adlon’s work on Californication (she was one of my favorite characters on that show), and really liked her on Louie, too, so I’m sticking with it for now. I think Louis CK and Adlon make a great team.September 16, 2016 at 6:15 am #1201923214
I love this show so muchOctober 11, 2016 at 8:24 am #1201934167
wow, the most recent episode was amazing. This year has been great for child actors on TV. Another one is joining the list as a possible emmy nominee with Mikey Madison. She was so good. At first I didn’t like her because she was so annoying, but she gave an amazing relatable performance in the episode “Future Fever”. I hope she can take Neicy Nash’s spot at the emmys. This show is so good and amazing and is one of my favorite new shows of the year. This is probably the best year in TV ever.October 11, 2016 at 10:45 am #1201934205
I’m finally warming up to the daughters (especially the eldest, after this latest episode), which I’m happy about. I’m in for the long haul on this one.October 11, 2016 at 11:09 am #1201934213
I totally agree. Mikey Madison was Emmy worthy as the eldest daughter in the latest episode. I was shocked by how good her performance was.April 29, 2017 at 9:09 pm #1202080223
FX has included the complete season of Better Things in their FYC pack; this was not the case for all of their series. “Woman Is the Something of the Something” and “Future Fever” appear to be their writing pushes; the pilot and finale are the directing pushes.

Finally FX makes the right submissions. I’m glad the kids are being submitted. I know she’ll never be nominated but Mikey Madison should be winning. Only woman bleed should be nominated for directing and future fever should be should be nominated for writing.July 17, 2017 at 5:23 pm #1202155569
So, was the show any good? I was thinking of giving a try after Adlon’s nomination, but I don’t want to invest time in something doubtful at this point hahaha
