Which of these Drama Supporting Actress nominees are you backing and why?

For me, this season was all about Lena Headey. She dominated every scene she was in and should win hands down.

I am still sore that Emilia Clarke didn’t win two years ago (sorry Anna Gunn fans). But while she was so deserving then, I don’t think she was given as much to do this year.

Emilia Clarke had one of the best character arcs of the entire series in S1, and there is an argument to be made that she was deserving then. But for S3? Hmm… Her commanding a dragon beating Anna Gunn’s “Fifty-One”? Hell no.

I do think that we have begun to see cracks in Clarke’s acting as she is asked to do more, whereas Headey seems to grow stronger with each year. I think most posters here would signal “Blackwater” as a turning-point for her portrayal of Cersei. Ultimately, I do agree that Headey pretty much owned this season whenever she was on-screen (even if it was less than I hoped), and is a worthy winner now, especially since Emmy voters name-checked Uzo Aduba over Lorraine Toussaint.

I won’t be rooting for either of them, but if I had to choose, it’d be Headey. I did like Daenerys’ storyline this season, but there were better performances out there and I’d be dissappointed if Emilia Clarke wins an Emmy considering what she is up against. Headey had a good ten minutes at the end of the season, but that was pretty much it. Her scenes were so brief, I think her performances in “Blackwater” and throughout season 4 are much better than the work she did this season (I’m not saying she’s gotten worse, just her material for this season wasn’t as strong.)

I get that Game of Thrones season 5 was outstanding, but I’m not sure both of them deserved a nomination, notabally Clarke. Especially when Lorraine Toussaint was snubbed. I’ll be supporting Uzo Aduba in this category and would rather see Joanne Froggatt or Christina Hendricks take a win here.

And Paul, you think Emilia Clarke should have beaten Anna Gunn? Seriously?! Her performance in “Fifity-One” was INCREDIBLE. Much much stronger than anything Clarke has done on GoT – and I loved “And Now His Watched is Ended”.

I’ve favored Headey over Clarke since day one. She’s simply a more convincing actress, to me, and has more commanding screen presence. Her subtle facial expressions are great. Clarke, on the other hand, either emotes too little, or is unconvincing when she tries to act, or tries to be a bad ass. Dany had a good character arc in season one, yes… but a good character arc doth not a good actress maketh. Never would have preferred Clarke over Gunn, no matter what season we’re talking about.

Emilia Clarke was amazeballs in Season 1 its a shame she wasn’t nominated.  I don’t watch Justified so I can’t speak on if she should have actually won that year.

I was happy to see Emilia nominated for season 6 but at the end of the day I don’t think anyone should win an Emmy for one six minute season over ten hours of episodes……

I don’t see cracks in Emilia’s acting I see cracks in her redundant storyline but I think she plays a important role in the end game of the series so I see her role picking up a bit.

Emilia Clarke had a much better season than Heady (Emilia had a selection of four possible tapes she could chose v. Heady’s One) however Heady has the better tape and should win between the two.

I will say this however I really think Heady should never show up again her storyline on the show needs to be over.   There is now way Cersei plays any role in the end game of this series.

Neither are deserving of the win for me. Headey could have had it in the bag for me, but her big scene was kind of ruined my CGI. (btw I have no problem with her using a double, it’s just the CGI used was pretty crap). Clarke also had half baked CGI in her big scene, but for me her best work was with Dinklage. Cersei is my favourite Thrones character, so if one was to win, I’d rather it be Headey. Just wish it was for a better season.

    I can promise you Margo Martindale’s performance absolutely trumps Clarke’s : )

Daenerys is a such a hit and miss character for me. Although I do agree, she felt more at the forefront than Cersei did this season. I just think Headey is a better actress.

Lena Headey hands down. Her performance is objectively the most powerful one of the six this year. Even if the CGI wasn’t that good. Her face says it all – the transformation from her standing on the top of the steps to her being emotionally broken by the time she arrived to The Red Keep. I’m still biast towards Christine Baranski and hoping for an upset win, but the deserving winner is Headey.

This gets the Emmy for the Understatement of the Year. 🙂

Where is the “neither one of them” option?

Okay, this is becoming ridicolous. Your CGI argument has at least had some kind of a meaning when you’re using that to comment on her episode submission and her chances of winning. But how is that anything to do with her acting ability in general or how she is not deserving of the award because of that. Right now it seems like you’re trying to make everyone aware of THAT WAS CGI. NOT HER. NOT HER. It was only one freaking scene in one big season which she had the most screentime than any one of her cast members. And she did the acting, with her face, which is mostly used by actors to act.
I know you love to add “I love Headey and her character” in every last of your sentence just to make an impression as an objective person but I doubt that very much. You are clearly rooting for Aduba and since Headey is her biggest component you’re trying to slender her whenever you can.

And please can someone tell me how for a someone who is in a show like Game of Thrones can have better season or a bigger arc than Headey’s this year? She had a complete storyline from beginning to an end,  a privilege she hadn’t have since maybe season 2. And until now, even though she is a big manipulator, she never got a chance to play the game of thrones herself. She was always overshadowed by either Ned, Tyrion, Joffrey or Tywin. Until now all we get to see, her retrots to these characters, and maybe some action . She never was the main focus of any storyline. This season opened with her(flashback) and also kinda ended with her. This is also BY FAR the season she has the most screentime of her own since the start. So if amongst 5 season any one of them would be deserving for her, this is it.

As for the question itself, I think Turner&Williams are more deserving than these two.

This season, absoultely Headey. It’s not even a contest. I’d also go with Headey for Seasons 2 and 4. Clarke gets the edge for Seasons 1 and 3, particularly the former. If Margo Martindale wasn’t eligible in 2011, then I would’ve rooted for Clarke that year had she gotten nominated. However, Martindale was so dominant that year that it wasn’t even close. Ever since the beginning of Season 4, Clarke has been on shaky ground performance-wise. Whether it is the result of the material or not, she is simply not rising to the heights she previously reached.

And as for Clarke deserving to beat Gunn in 2013, umm no. Gunn outshined Clarke in the episode submissions and during the season, despite the latter doing solid work nonetheless.

I think Clarke will have in the next season a similar stuff that she had in season one, with the Dothraki. Daenerys needs a change of scenario, Clarke is very stagnant.

I am a huge GoT fan and I have to say Lena did great this year even though I hate Cersei. But Emilia Clarke for the first time had me interested in her arc. Her story went from being the most boring to being the most interesting because her character suddenly became darker than we had seen before. I don’t want to say Emilia deserves to win for that, but she’s had her best stuff this season.

Lena Headey has this pretty much locked up. I cannot see her loosing and I don’t think enough people care about the CGI body double for that to be a negative factor when the real performance is in her face and that’s all her. Brava to Clarke for helping a sister out by submitting “Dance of Dragons”. I will give her credit that her scenes are all together and run about 20 minutes but she has little dialogue and not much to do. Clarke would’ve been better off submitting “Hardhome” where she gives her big wheel speech and remember besides the scenes at the Wall the only other ones are of Headey. With “Dance of Dragons” its seems as if she’s throwing this for Headey not wanting to upstage her.
