    Hi all,

I’m thinking of compiling a list of the best “Gilmore Girls” episodes ever and I’d love to get some input on which episodes are the best and why. Thanks!

As someone who has watched the series maybe 15 times, I am super excited for this and here we go:

    Season One

Pilot-it was a great pilot and perfectly sets up the world

Rory’s Birthday Parties- this is when the series truly takes off into greatness for me, it brings the Gilmores and Stars Hollow together for the first time, and it is just beautiful.

Love, Daisies and Troubadours-There are 100 yellow daisies, nuff said, but this finale is just fanastic

    Season Two

Roadtrip to Harvard-Many regard this as one of the best episodes of all time, and it is just perfect

The Bracebridge Dinner-Gilmore is best when it blends the worlds, and brings the entire ensemble together, and this is one of those perfect moments.

There’s the Rub-I love this one because it plays to the Lorelai/Emily relationship in the best way possible at a spa. This also cements Rory and Paris as friends.

I Can’t Get Started-The intro with Sookie trying to pick the song down the aisle is enough to get this on the list. This is a great finale.

    Season Three

They Shoot Gilmore’s Don’t They-In my opinion the best episode in the history of the show, perfection and the best Stars Hollow event to raise money.

A Deep Friend Korean Thanksgiving-Four Thanksgivings? Yes the Gilmore Girls made it to four dinners, and ate tofurkey

Dear Emily and Richard-Flashbacks can often risky but I love the way we get to explore how Rory was conceived.

The Big One-The C-Span meltdown and Paris’ singing Into the Woods was way worth

Those are Strings Pinocchio-If you do not cry at Rory’s valedictorian speech you are inhuman

    Season 4

The Lorelai’s First Day at Yale-This is everything Rory has waited for, and captures what it means to leave and go to college, so funny and just fantastic

The Festival of Living Art-Once again Stars Hollow town events are usually some of the best episodes, and Miss Patty saying “Apostles keep Christ and Judas a part” is sheer perfection.

Last Week Fights, This Week Tights-“As kids we shared our toys with all the girls and boys Barrel of monkeys, you’re battleship sunk me please recall the joy. Willow, Clue, Mousetrap, Bash and Spirograph kaleidoscope spinning Yahtzee, I’m winning! Think of how we laughed. But today we share our love. Today we share our love. For love is the greatest toy around, around, around.” -Enough said! and Luke can waltz!

Raincoats and Recipes-It finally happens, Luke and Lorelai kiss and the Dragonfly opens!

    Season 5

Written in the Stars-Luke and Lorelai’s first date, and he is all in!

Wedding Bell Blues-The vow renewal, and Emily’s bachelorette party

    Season 6

We’ve Got Magic to Do-Emily putting Shira in her place, and kids thrown glitter, amazing!

Friday Night’s Alright for Fighting-The end sequence is the best they have ever done at a Gilmore dinner

    Season 7

Bon Voyage-Say what you will but I love the finale, and I cried a lot

They Shoot Gilmore’s Don’t They is a personal favorite of mine. Sherman-Pallidino’s script is spectacular, and the performances of Graham and Bledel are fantastic (probably Bledel’s best work in the show)

Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.

I second “There’s the Rub.” Graham and Bishop have rarely been better.

    My personal favorites:

    Say Something (Season 5×14)

This is my favorite episode of the show just because Lauren Graham is unbelievably good in this. She should have been recognized for this episode. The Luke/Lorelai scenes are heartbreaking and I love seeing Rory be there for Lorelai. But seriously, the voicemail scene.

Last Week Fights, This Week Tights (4×21)

Such a beautiful episode for Luke/Lorelai. It has such a whimsical feel…and then there is the heartbreaking Jess/Rory scene at the end.

    Raincoats and Recipes (4×22)

Everything comes together very nicely in this episode. Every character has an important storyline and of course there is the LL kiss. It’s a really magical episode. It’s also just amazing to see Lorelai and Sookie finally open the Dragon Fly Inn.

The Lorelais’ First Day at Yale (4×02)

A very heartwarming episode. I love episodes that focus on Rory and Lorelai.

They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They? (3×07)

A super fun episode and amazing for Rory/Jess.

You Jump, I Jump, Jack (5×07)

A really different episode for the show. I love the Rory/Logan scenes though I typically don’t like them.

    Other favorites:

    Forgiveness and Stuff (1×10)
    Road Trip to Harvard (2×04)
    Wedding Bell Blues (5×13)
    Those Are Strings Pinocchio (3×22)
    A-Tisket, A-Tasket (2×13)
    There’s the Rub (2×16)
    Teach Me Tonight (2×19)
The Festival of Living Art (4×07)
Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out (6×08)
    Bon Voyage (7×22)

Gilmore Girls, along with Buffy, is my favorite show. I cannot wait for the revival. I’ve never been more excited for a show in my life.

Now for the why of my top 15:

    1. Pilot
Sets the tone and foundation for the entire series. Fun, drama, family, love, and the burg that is Star’s Hollow.

    2. Rory’s Dance
Turning point of the Rory and Dean romance, but one of the best Lorelai/Emily episodes due to initial kindness followed by the huge fight after Rory and Dean fall asleep.

    3. Road Trip To Harvard
The episode that got me hooked. It shows Lorelai’s restless nature, her unfulfilled dreams, and deep devotion to her daughter. Should have earned an Emmy nomination for this.

    4. The Bracebridge Dinner
It mixes the quirks of Star’s Hollow with the drama of their lives. The scenes where Richard tells Emily he quit and Jess acknowledges his mom doesn’t want him home for the holidays are heartbreaking.

    5. There’s the Rub
The best of the Lorelai/Emily episodes! Watching Graham and Bishop play off each other was always magical. They toed the line between like/love/iciness perfectly.

    6. I Can’t Get Started
Sookie gets married and has a meltdown! Christopher’s back and loves Lorelai! Christopher has to dump her right before the wedding! Paris and Rory as student council Prez & Veep was great. Liza Weil starting the Paris/Rory detente. Jess comes back!

    7. They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?
One of the best directed episodes ever. Plus, it brilliantly advanced the story. The heartbreak at the end of the dance after Dean dumps Rory was so sad, but made up for by Jess letting his guard down.

    8. Those Are Strings Pinocchio
Rory’s graduation speech was so sweet. Plus, full Gilmore time with the grandparents there. The love and sacrifice themes are always so well done.

    9. The Lorelais’ First Day at Yale
Perfect Gilmore Girl time. Funny, sweet, and a great microcosm of their relationship.

    10. The Festival of Living Art
The only Emmy win and nomination they got was for makeup for this, which was AMAZING! But the storylines were great as well: the midwife, Gil joins the band, Lorelai flinched, Kirk as Jesus!

    11. The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais
Such a dramatic episode that was amazing. The lives of the Gilmore Girls were falling apart and they couldn’t get in touch with each other, so they find the married men in their lives and take comfort.

    12. Raincoats and Recipes
My favorite episode of the series ever. The inn opens, Jason (ugh) shows up, Richard & Emily break up, Luke and Lorelai kiss, then Dean & Rory (wow). This should have won Lauren her Emmy!

    13. Wedding Bell Blues
Loved the big 100th episode. Kelly Bishop was fantastic with her bachelorette party, and the vow renewal. Logan and Rory becomes official. Lorelai finds out what Emily did and “You and me, we’re done”.

    14. Friday Night’s Alright for Fighting
On here simply for the final act where all of the bad things are hashed out and put on the table. The editing and acting were perfection.

    15. Bon Voyage
Rory gets a job! Lorelai has to let go. Luke works overtime to make it all happen. It was a perfect wrap up to the series, and not an April in sight! (Amy, the way you set up that storyline was BAAAD)
