“Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery has been cast as the female lead in Netflix’s upcoming mini-series “Godless.” She joins previously announced cast members Jeff Daniels and Jack O’Connell.
“Godless” tells the story of Frank Griffin (Daniels), an outlaw who is terrorizing the West as he hunts down Roy Goode (O’Connell), his partner turned mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher’s (Dockery) ranch, Frank’s chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle, N.M. — which is mysteriously made up entirely of women.
The series is being executive produced by Steven Soderbergh; Scott Frank will pen, direct and exec produce the project along with Casey Silver.
“Godless,” which will film in Santa Fe, N.M., will worldwide on Netflix in 2017.
Fantastic news. Hopefully this will get Dockery the Emmy win I would have loved for her this year.
FYC: The Crown, Fleabag and AHS: Roanoke for Gold Derby TV Awards
Fuck Yeah! Lady Mary Crawley’s characterization was a joy to watch, Dockery deserved an Emmy for that role, but hopefully this one can actually make her a winner! Go girl!
This screams Emmy bait but unless it is eligible for Emmys in 2018 it won’t do much imo. The Lead Actress category for next year is way too crowded.
I’m pretty stoked for this one because of Jack O’Connell. I’ve been a fan of his ever since his performance in Starred Up and he was the main reason I saw Money Monster. He’s probably the best male actor of his generation.
Godless ( Steven Soderbergh + Netflix)
Soderbergh is only executive producer, like he is on The Girlfriend Experience. Scott Frank is cool: The Lookout, Minority Report, Out of Sight, Get Shorty.
Sorry thedemonhog, it’s a little sensationalist of my part. How I can change the title for a one more appropriate?
