You may have already noticed these, but now we’re ready to announce the new sections officially — predictions from our Top 24 Users (CLICK HERE) and other Users. Have you landed in that elite group of shrewd award seers?
Let me explain — it’s a bit complicated.
In general, the concept is this — we wish to feature YOU guys in leagues to compete against Gold Derby’s Experts and Editors so we reach back to last year and dig up the Top 24 users who had the best predix and feature them in our charts. However, not all 24 are back this year and even if some of those Derbyites are back here reading our articles and posting in these forums, they may not have made their predix yet. This section is automated. It dips down to 24 of the available pool. If someone who ranks higher up returns late, they automatically bump out someone on the chart. Therefore, some of the people in this section now will probably not remain. You can always check our Leaderboards (CLICK HERE) to see the rankings of who performed best in that prediction event last year in order to see who is in danger of being bumped out.
Now when you examine this list — HERE — of our Top 24 Users predicting Emmy winners, you’ll notice that there are not 24 people there. There are only 21. That’s because 3 people in that group did not predict Comedy Series, which you see in that link. They predicted just a few other categories. Right now I’m PM’ing and emailing them asking them please flesh out their predix, but they haven’t responded.
Now let me explain the section called just “Users” — CLICK HERE. Theoretically, it’s just a scattered sampling of average users at Gold Derby, but since we want to show off ourselves at our best, we’ve decided to feature the smartest folks who didn’t make the cut into the Top 24. Whoever didn’t make that cut gets bumped down to the regular Users area, which therefore really features the Top 25-48 Users who have returned from last year and now have logged their predix. Make sense?
One more thing. I never made a formal announcement about another new functionality at Gold Derby, so let me do that here. Notice the little calendar in the top left corner of these charts. Click those dates and you can go back in time to see the people’s predix in the past. Yes, that’s potentially quite embarrassing, but, let’s face it, fascinating. As the award season progresses, you can always go back and see the stupid stuff I picked early on. As of right now, we do not have an easy way for you to access old charts from past years so you can see, say, the Experts’ predix in 2011, but we’re building it. Soon (within weeks) it should be ready for you to use for easy access to invaluable past info.
Whatcha think of these new functions?
In the near future, we’re going to introduce lots of other nifty things, including an in-depth section in your own account/profile area that chronicles your past scores (recent + best/worst) and how you performed against all of these leagues. Including your own. Remember, we have the league function here. You can create your own groups and square off in prediction wars. Or else use our league functionality to run your office pool — or friends’ pool.
We also have a LOT of other great features in the works too. Stay tuned, my dear Derbyites!
