I am trying to predict the nominees for Best Drama Actress. Since many of you have said, that Ruth Wilson wont be nominated again, since she won last year, I had a look at the past nominations. In the last ten years more than half of the actresses, who won their category, were nominated again the following year.

    2006: Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)
    2008: Anna Paquin (True Blood)
2009: Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)
    2011: Claire Danes (Homeland)
2013: Robin Wright (House of Cards)

    My predictions so far are:

Julianna Margulies – The Good Wife
    Claire Danes – Homeland
    Viola Davis – HTGAWM
    Ruth Wilson – The Affair

For the fith place I am torn between Taraji P. Henson and Robin Wright.
The HFPA have sticked with Julianna Margulies for all seasons of the Good Wife (she won for the first season), the same with Robin Wright (she also won for the first season). Taraji P. Henson has the emmy, TCA and Critic Choice nominations (and win) as well as the popularity of her character and the show speaking for her.

I have; Taraji P. Henson, Priyanka Chopra, Ruth Wilson, Viola Davis & Krysten Ritter, but I think I might replace Ritter with either Jamie Alexander or Shiri Appleby. I’m so torn. I think you’re way off base with Danes & Margulies – I think the HFPA jumped off that train.

Why are you predicting Priyanka Chopra? I was thinking about putting her in or Kyrsten Ritter, but are both well-known enough and their shows have enough buzz and critical acclaim?

I´d love for Shiri Appleby to get in. She was terrific on UnReal and that nomination would be more than earned with her performence. I had her in my prediction, but because there isnt a lot of buzz around her and the show (not like there is with Sami Malek and Mr Robot).

Chopra is a huge star in India. This is the Hollywood FOREIGN PRESS Association, so wondering if that might factor in. Quantico has a full season order, is among the biggest of the new shows since September, and the Globes quite like a new show.

Plus, there may be the fact that she is the first South Asian lead actress on US telly. I know the Globes don’t fall for much of the narratives at play, but that is a biggish one this year.

No one is thinking that Michelle Dockery could get in? Is this going to be the last time that Downton Abbey can be nominated by the HFPA?

question: was there any buzz for Ruth Wilson before her nomination or win or was she a complete shock? Shiri Appleby got a lot of praise for her season, she was considered by many a breakout performer of the summer Along side Rami Malek, and yet there doesn’t seem to be any buzz for her or the show? I’d love to see her get in as well but I feel she’s been forgotten in favor of Ritter (who is more well known) and Priyanka (whose performance was ok but not really raved over to my knowledge, please correct me if I’m wrong cuz I tuned out of that show by the 2nd episode lol). Constance Zimmer is well known and has often been critically praised and I have yet to see buzz for her either (and she might even have a stronger case than Appleby). What does UnReal have to do to get some love at these award shows lol? Is the fact that it a Lifetime show hurting its chances? Winning aside, just the acknowledgement of a nomination would be nice but I feel like they’re not really even in the conversation.

Priyanka isn’t very good in that role and she’s not bad either, but as someone already pointed out she’s a huge star in India and that alone will work in her favour. The HFPA is known for nominating/awarding non-American stars. There wasn’t much buzz for Wilson either, but The Affair aired just at the right time to create some sort of buzz. Appleby will have a hard time breaking through, her show aired so long ago.

There were aome buzz about The Affair last year because of the different narrative format and the topic. Wilson
got a lot of praise for the first and especially the nighth Episode. But I think the buzz had more to do with the innovative concept of the skow and the great acting than with huge viewing numbers and popularity. Since Unreal has also a very inventive concept and was highly praised for its introduction and use of anti-heroines and dealing with the worst of reality TV. So based in that l thought Appleby had a chanvce to get in, but I am not sure if she is well-known enough to get in. Ritter and
Chopra I guess are more well-known. Wilson had been nominated for an Globe before and was known for her work in Broadway. Having said that unreal was nominated for best New series at the Gotham awards with Mr. Robot winning.

She could be but I think they will rather nominated her for the final season next year. She got very good material this year. Since the final season of Downton is airing in january in the US it will be eligible for the next years globes.

    Lets see.
    Taraji P. Henson “Empire”
    Claire Danes “Homeland”
    Julianna Margulies “The Good Wife”
    Robin Wright “House of Cards”
    Ruth Wilson “The Affair”

    I’m going to change these.

I was originally going to remove Viola. I had a feeling that she wouldn’t get in.

They should be tired of nominating Julianna.

I will be shocked if they drop Viola this year. I’d assume they would want to keep her around for at least another year. I can see her possibly winning this time around.

Taraji and Viola are locks. Robin shoud be fine, and Krysten Ritter has the Netflix cache. Last spot goes to Claire.

I really think Julianna (and TGW) are done here. That show is aging and played-out.
