I have been thinking about my predictions for the Golden Globes and who I feel is unlikely to be nominated. This then got me thinking, I think the term unlikely often doesn’t apply to the Golden Globes. Many deserving contenders who I thought would never get nominated actually have. Just over the past few years I was surprised by:

    2013

    • Josh Charles / THE GOOD WIFE
    • Monica Potter / PARENTHOOD (very deserving, yet very surprising)

    2012

    • Danny Huston / MAGIC CITY
    • Hayden Panettiere / NASHVILLE (the repeat nomination was the biggest shock)
    • Archie Panjabi / THE GOOD WIFE

    2011

    • Madeleine Stowe / REVENGE
    • Callie Thorne / NECESSARY ROUGHNESS

    2010

    • Scott Caan / HAWAII FIVE-O
    • Piper Perabo / COVERT AFFAIRS

    2009

    • Jane Adams / HUNG

A lot of these are in the Supporting Categories, which to me doesn’t make me feel that my predictions aren’t entirely impossible. At this stage I am predicting:

    Supporting Actress TV:

    • Melissa McBride / THE WALKING DEAD (I feel that this could be like a Monica Potter nomination, highly deserving and positive remarks from critics. The Walking Dead also managed to get a Drama Series nomination for its first season so it is more “on the radar” than Parenthood was.)

    Supporting Actor TV:

    • Matt Czuchry / THE GOOD WIFE (The show is still on the Golden Globes radar judging by the support shown towards Josh Charles and Archie Panjabi over the last 2 years and the series was able to get back in Drama Series so it’s possible. Matt is also doing his best work yet IMO).

So who are your “Wild Card” predictions?

I am starting to think maybe Bebe Neuwirth can get in for Madam Secretary. She’s about the only real good thing on the show and she has some great scenes.

I think we might see Josh Charles repeat a nomination too

I think we can see Uzo Aduba entering the race.

I don’t have this in my predictions but I get this feeling that Tea leoni (spelt right?) might get nominated.

I completely agree Vinny, I had her in my predictions until three days ago where I made the switch to Ruth Wilson.

That’s the actress from the Affair right?

Well, based on critical acclaim and ratings I’m guessing maybe that Jane, The Virgin might sneak into one or two comedy categories?

Melissa McBride- It’s like what tommy just said. It could be like the Monica Potter/Kathy Segal nominations. Giving them recognition once for critically acclaimed story lines.

And I dont know if this counts but I dont think Bill Murray will be nominated to Olive Kitteridge

Gina Rodriguez would be a big shock,
I know she’s very high in our odds but she’s on a CW show gods sake

I dont think so. Gotham will probably just be viewed as another superhero show to the voters. And its not a huge critical darling or anything

Matt Czuchry, The Good Wife, will get Josh Charles’ spot.
