Have you ever noticed how a show will introduce a great supporting character and then they just literally vanish? I’m looking for examples of this…
One that comes to mind is Dr. Sydney Heron; played by Kalia Rocha. She was perky which was a nice contrast to Meredith and Cristina, and most of the icy, cynical characters on the show at the time. She was great and sort of just vanished w/out ever being mentioned again. I really wish they would bring her back.
I don’t think she’s been seen or mentioned since season 2.
Any others? or just characters you liked who haven’t been seen in far too long?February 26, 2012 at 11:01 pm #240322
Well, this is really going back a few years, but I’m still upset that the Walt storyline in Lost never went anywhere. Why was he special? Was it hereditary? If Michael wasn’t special, then Walt got his powers from his dead mother, who probably would’ve been revealed in later seasons as a very important flashback character … the list of story possibilities goes on and on. Puberty hit the actor, and the actor hit the road.
I’ll think of other examples, I’m sure.February 27, 2012 at 7:52 am #240323
This probably doesn’t count, because he was never a true supporting character, but the first one that came to my mind was Lennie James’ character on The Walking Dead. I’m still hoping he’ll return.February 27, 2012 at 9:32 am #240324
Nessa “The Ice Queen” Holt was a magnetic character in the first two seasons of Las Vegas. But Marsha Thomason was fired in budget cuts at the end of season two and Nessa was rarely mentioned again.February 27, 2012 at 9:43 am #240325
What ever happened to the character of Crystal on “Roseanne?” She was a regular character on the show–even having a few episodes revolving around her—and she just disappeared without another mention after season 4?February 27, 2012 at 10:04 am #240326

Yeah, I remember her. She married Dan’s father and worked w/Rosie at the diner. She was great. You’re right she did sort of just vanish.February 27, 2012 at 10:08 am #240327
On “Depserate Housewives” I’m still kind of bitter that Andrew hasn’t been on in awhile.February 27, 2012 at 12:00 pm #240328
BROOKE SMITH. I deleted Grey’s Anatomy after Shonda’s ruthlessness.. Never watched another episode.February 27, 2012 at 11:50 pm #240329
There was a D.A. character on The Practice played by Ron Livingston that vanished. He was supposed to be the replacement for the killed off Jason Kravits character and was just dropped. Also some -I think network forced -younger characters on Boston Legal that vanished.
I think her name was Rikey? on CSI.February 28, 2012 at 12:02 am #240330
why the actor left was highly publicisized, but they never properly explained why Sam Seiborn left the West Wing (they sort of addressed it in season 7 when he returned).February 28, 2012 at 7:18 am #240331
Great topic. I don’t think they were ‘great’ character but two examples come to mind. One being Frank’s youngest son, Brendan, on Step by Step. He simply vanished when the show moved from ABC to CBS. I think they mentioned him but we never saw him again. And another being the youngest daughter Judy on Family Matters. When the show started to feature it’s rising ‘star’ Jaleel White more, Judy just vanished. I think it was after season 4 and they never mentioned her again….strange!February 28, 2012 at 7:37 am #240332
^ That reminds me of Richie Cunningham’s brother on Happy Days, who vanished without a trace very early on. He doesn’t really qualify for this category, though, because he wasn’t “great”, in fact all I can remember about him was that he was always bouncing a basketball.
