Would love to see these get some nominations. I doubt they could pull off best series nominations but I think Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore and Hugh Dancy are doing excellent work and could sneak in. Well at least I hope so!!!June 2, 2013 at 4:06 pm #278483
They both should at least do well at next year’s Saturn Awards. Why doesn’t Syfy air them?June 2, 2013 at 7:38 pm #278484
Vera Farmiga has the benefit of being an Oscar nominee, which always helps if you’re looking for an Emmy nod. She’s also worked with some major names – Clooney, Scorsese, DiCaprio, Damon, Nicholson, Streep, Washington and Voight – and probably has lots of friends in the academy. A nod for her is not far out of the question.June 3, 2013 at 12:04 am #278485
I was having lunch with a friend today and he asked me if I knew of any good horror films released as of late. My response was, “If you want good horror, just turn on the telvision.” Truly, there have never been more options and they’re all so well done. You’ve got…
– American Horror Story
– Bates Motel
– Game of Thrones
– Orphan Black
Granted, some of those have a blend of fantasy and/or scifi but they still fit the mold.June 3, 2013 at 1:10 am #278486

I want to check out both of these shows eventually, but am deterred by them being remakes of iconic works. It makes me feel like they are just cash grabs.June 23, 2013 at 11:16 pm #278488

I can attest to Bates Motel that it is time you’ll be glad you spent watching something. Although I wish the creators would have made it a complete period piece opposed to setting it in 2013, it is still good-quality television. Vera Farmiga is turning in the performance of her career (think Lange in AHS) and Freddie Highmore is using this as the segue from child-star to serious actor.June 23, 2013 at 11:22 pm #278489
I really don’t think Bate’s Motel has anything to offer besides Vera’s performance. Hannibal might do it for you however.June 24, 2013 at 12:21 am #278490
I watched Bates Motel’s first three episodes, and it just felt so hollow and overwrought, so I stopped. Farmiga is fine, but that is one show it’s kinda all over the place.
Hannibal really took me by surprise though. I was not expecting it to be good at all, so the fact it’s just so different from everything else on TV right now and so inspired and precisely crafted just blew me away. It really is a great show.June 24, 2013 at 6:07 am #278491
Bates Motel is very trashy and poorly written. I see it as an unintentional comedy; as such, I find it highly entertaining, even though it’s really quite bad.
Hannibal is much stronger. It’s very much feels like a cable show on network TV.June 24, 2013 at 10:11 am #278492
I’m fairly certain whatever over-the-topness Bates Motel is attempting to do is entirely deliberate. Personally, I love the goddamn show for how campy and ridiculous it is. I love Farmiga’s intensity. She can be heartbreaking at times but I’m more enjoying how laugh-out-loud funny she can be. I haven’t seen a performance like it.June 24, 2013 at 11:02 am #278493
Can Hannibal get into a tecnical category? The cinematography is absolutely breathtaking, maybe it could sneak in?June 25, 2013 at 10:34 am #278494
Is it shot like Pushing Daisies? That show did very well in the technical categories, but missed cinematography. What other categories could it get into? Prosthetics?June 25, 2013 at 2:23 pm #278495
Bates started out great but kinda fell off by the end. Cant exactly pin point what went wrong but something did. Hannibal on the other hand is neck and neck with The Americans for Best New Drama Series imo. Id love to see Mads Mikkelsen get some emmy love. He’s killing it as Hannibal Lector.June 25, 2013 at 4:41 pm #278496
This is such an easy choice to make of which show is better. Bates Motel is laughable to how bad it always has been and while I can respect the performance Vera Farmiga is giving it’s just not that special because of the horrible writing the show has, also having Freddie Highmore as your lead (I don’t care where he placed himself on the ballot) was just a massive mistake. Hannibal was such a surprise for me and a good surprise, it is another of example of how brillant Bryan Fueller is and how he made this show go too far every time was so delicious to watch. Dancy and Mikkelsen were amazing and deserve any attention they’re probably not going to get. All I hope is that Bates Motel disppears after the second season even though it won’t and the fate is probably Hannibal will not last over a second season which will be quite bad since NBC has not had this good a drama in such a long time.
