Somehow, Ryan Murphy’s ultra-sexy drama series is not getting made at HBO — despite starring Anna Torv, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jaimie Alexander, Michelle Monaghan, Scott Speedman and Wes Bentley.
HBO has shut the door on Open, the Glee and American Horror Story co-creator’s risque take on modern romance that was described as “a multicharacter exploration of the complex, ever evolving landscape of sexuality, monogamy and intimacy in relationships.”
The premium network’s programming president Michael Lombardo said in a statement: “After such a triumphant collaboration with The Normal Heart, everyone felt that Open was not the right next step for all involved. However, we fully expect to work together again in the near future.”
Do you guys think it has anything to do with the fact that the Academy didn’t respond well to The Normal Heart’s homossexual content?September 12, 2014 at 10:50 pm #332945
“Why HBO Bitch-Slapped Open: Yes, Hollywood Still Hates Gays”September 12, 2014 at 11:55 pm #332946
The world is finally starting to realize that Ryan Murphy is an assault on filmmaking/television production.September 13, 2014 at 12:31 am #332948
Clearly HBO is homophobic.September 13, 2014 at 1:27 am #332949

Haaaaaaaaaa! That’s brilliant, Riley! LOVE IT!
And, oh, yes, sooooo true!
HBO is gonna regret this. They’re wimping out on doing this because “Looking” was such a bomb. What the hell did they expect when they hired such talentless hacks? Anyone watching 5 minutes of “Looking” could easily tell what a superficial, cliche-packed, amateur production it was. If any gays in Hollywood deserve a good bitchslap, the creators of “Looking” are at the top of that list.

Stupid HBO. Beware the revenge of the Gay Mafia. Ryan Murphy is consigliere.

My dear Looking! If only it had scored the seven nominations that it deserved.September 13, 2014 at 1:55 am #332952
Why care about Ryan Murphy? HBO has Jonathan Nolan’s Westworld with an all-star cast!September 13, 2014 at 2:55 am #332953
^ HBO doesn’t give a fuck about star-studded cast. When they don’t like something, they have no problem not picking it up. Just look at the cast of The Corrections.September 13, 2014 at 2:59 am #332954
They realized that Ryan Murphy is the rejected spawn of Satan who was kicked out of hell not for being gay but for being f*cking awful. No one wants to deal with this man’s pretentiousness. I’m pretty sure “””creative””” differences came in the way of the project moving forward.September 13, 2014 at 3:35 am #332955
Yeah, I think this is more that Ryan Murphy is a bit of a hack instead of homophobia. Remember, they also rejected his Baby Jane TV movieSeptember 13, 2014 at 4:56 am #332956

Yeah, Westworld’s pilot could end up going nowhere. Its previous remake in 1980 failed miserably. But at this point, it seems like too hot a project to pass on, especially when HBO is lacking drama series.September 13, 2014 at 8:01 am #332957
I think this is good for Ryan Murphy, too. The Normal Heart was a boon for him. Has he ever directed anything that had people struggling to find something bad to say about him? Even a lot of people who hate him reacted with “I was certain he was going to ruin it, but he didn’t!” That’s not love, but it’s better than, “I hope you die a painful death, Ryan Murphy!” Following TNH up with a series that he was most likely going to ruin would have undone all his work.
