If you want to succed in such a prestiguos awards that are the Emmys, you must get nominated and submit 1 episode of your best work. But focusing in this year’s Emmys, let’s imagine that contenders had to submit 2 episodes instead of one. Then how would it be the Drama Acting Races?

    My opinion:

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

1.Matthew McConaughey ”True Detective” (”Who Goes There” & ”The Secret Fate of All Life”)
2.Bryan Cranston ”Breaking Bad” (”Ozymandias” & ”Felina”)
3.Kevin Spacey ”House of Cards” (”Chapter 14” & ”Chapter 26”)
4.Woody Harrelson ”True Detective” (”The Locked Room” & ”Haunted Houses”)
5.James Spader ”The Blacklist” (”Pilot” & ”Anslo Garrick”)
6.Jon Hamm ”Mad Men” (”The Monolith” & ”Waterloo”)

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

    1.Claire Danes ”Homeland” (”Uh..Oh..Ah..” & ”The Star”)
2.Robin Wright ”House of Cards” (”Chapter 17” & ”Chapter 26”)
3.Julianna Margulies ”The Good Wife” ( ”Hitting the Fan” & ”A Few Words”)
    4.Kerry Washington ”Scandal”
5.Elisabeth Moss ”Mad Men” (”The Strategy” & ”Waterloo”)
6.Vera Farmiga ”Bates Motel” (”Gone but not Forgotten” & ”The Immutable Truth”)

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

1.Aaron Paul ”Breaking Bad” (”Confessions” & ”Granite State”)
2.Peter Dinklage ”Game of Thrones” (”The Laws of Gods and Men” & ”The Children”)
3.Dean Norris ”Breaking Bad” (”Blood Money” & ”Confessions”)
4.Josh Charles ”The Good Wife” (”Hitting the Fan” & ”The Decision Tree”)
5.Jon Voight ”Ray Donovan” (”The Bag or the Bat” & ”Same Exactly”)
6.Mandy Patinkin ”Homeland” (”Still Possitive” & ”Gerontion”)

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

1.Anna Gunn ”Breaking Bad” (”Buried” & ”Ozymandias”)
    2.Maggie Smith ”Downton Abbey” (”Episode 1” & ”Episode 7”)
3.Christine Baranski ”The Good Wife” (”Everything is Ending” & ”Outside the Bubble”)
4.Michelle Monaghan ”True Detective” (”The Locked Room” & ”Hanted Houses”)
5.Christina Hendricks ”Mad Men” (”Time Zones” & ”The Strategy”)
    6.Bellamy Young ”Scandal”

Wow! Great list, I was skimming through it to see if there was anything I disagree with but I couldn’t find one!

Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.

Buried and Ozymandias as a combo tape would be amazing.

I think it would solidify a Cranston win this year. It would probably help Dinklage triumph over Paul as well…

Tony Hale would not win his second Emmy if he had to submit two tapes. “Crate” is probably going to be better than any single submission, though, so he’s fine under current rules.

I watch all the episode submissions when they’re released (even the episodes I had already seen). Selfishly, I’m glad they keep it to 1 (even for the supporting actors). That would be too much work.

I don’t really think “Hitting the Fan” is a great submission for Julianna Margulies. For her, off the top of my head, I think “The Decision Tree” and “The Last Call” are her two best episodes.

Bellamy Young would definitely submit “Everything Coming up Mellie” and maybe “Mama Said Knock You Out.” Kerry Washington…I’d submit “No Sun on the Horizon” and…maybe “It’s Handled”? Or the season finale?

Bellamy Young would obviously submit Everything’s Coming up Mellie, but I think she’d probably do Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington as the second one. She doesn’t have a ton of screentime but she has her drunken monologue, which is kind of what first showed people who good she was and first started getting her attention. Kerry Washington I’m not sure, she didn’t have one or two standout tapes where she did much drastically different imo (although i do believe her season-wide performance is very deserving)

I definitely think we would have different winners if they were allowed two submissions. It can allow actors (especially supporting) to balance screentime with impact, Bellamy Young being a pretty good example

2.Peter Dinklage ”Game of Thrones” (”The Laws of Gods and Men” & ”The Children”)

He’s good in both, but that’s two hours of GoT with soooo little Dinklage overall, compared to how much you would see from most of his competitors in two episodes. I think the strategic move would be to pair one of those episodes (each of which is essentially one showy scene) with an episode where he’s more prominent/talks more and is still very good. I would say “The Laws of Gods and Men” and “Mockingbird” is a stronger pair.

    Breaking Bad:
    Bryan Cranston (Ozymandias & Felina)
Anna Gunn (Buried & Ozymandias or Felina)
Aaron Paul (Confessions & Granite State or To’hajiilee)
Dean Norris (Blood Money & To’hajiilee)

    Game of Thrones:
Peter Dinklage (The Laws of Gods and Men & Mockingbird or The Lion and the Rose)
Emilia Clarke (Breaker of Chains & Oatchkeeper, The Mountain and The Viper, Two Swords, or The Children)

It’d likely kill Wright’s chances and help (if nominated) Maslany and Danes become the absolute frontrunners. On the leading male side it would just make a tight race even tighter. I imagine it would give slight aid to Cranston. So wish all the nominated performances had to submit two episodes.

It would make it difficult to us and at a certain point, you run the risk of voters not watching the tapes because they have too many on their plate, but actors really should have to submit two episodes.

Why would it help Cranston?  McConaughey would suddenly have half of his season submitted.  Wright would go from frontrunner to out of the running.  Gunn would be even more unbeatable.

Aaron Paul is tricky.  He probably would submit “Problem Dog” because of the quantity of screen time, but it is the weakest episode of the season and he does not have anything too memorable in it.  “Granite State” might be better because the material is so powerful, but his screen time is less.  I feel like his screen time is better divided than Peter Dinklage though.  Do people really want to wait half an hour for Peter Dinklage, get his scene, then wait another forty-five minutes for his other scene?

“Ozymandias” & “Felina” seems like a pretty unbeatable combination.

Kerry Washington: “Vermont is for Lovers, Too” and “The Price of Free and Fair Election”
Bellamy Young: “Everything’s Coming Up Mellie” and “We Don’t Touch the First Ladies”

    Mad Men:
Jon Hamm: “The Strategy” and “Waterloo”
Elisabeth Moss: “A Day’s Work” and “The Strategy”
John Slattery: “The Monolith” and “Waterloo”
Christina Hendricks: “A Day’s Work” and “The Strategy”
January Jones: “Field Trip” and “The Runaways”

I don’t think “Ozymandias” and “Felina” are unbeatable. It’s more about McConaughey not haven played this game before and is more likely to mess up if he had to submit two episodes. He’d be more likely to submit “Form and Void”, which I don’t think is much of a submission at all, and if he doesn’t submit that he’d be helping out Harelson (if he’s nominated).

Dinklage would NEED “Mockingbird” or “The Lion and The Rose” in there, just as proof that he’s an integral role on the show. I mean, he’s got the biggest part, so “The Laws of Gods and Men” plus “The Children” would be pretty terrible against the amount of screentime and speaking material that, say, Dean Norris would have in almost any two episodes. I think those are both better showcases for him than “The Children” anyway.

John Slattery: “The Monolith” and “Waterloo”

Man, that’s a pretty incredible pair. I’m not sure he had a better pair in any of the longer seasons. I think you might want “Waterloo” in there for Moss too, though.
