I always considered making a thread like this.

Since the Emmys seperate TV seasons, if some TV critics came together to make a list of the top 100 TV seasons of all time, what would end up on there?

I had to look up what Relativity was.

“Relativity” was a beautiful, amazing show.  Nothing would make me happier than if ABC released it on DVD.  It really was a wonderful show.

Off the top of my head, two came up. I cannot rank them because I don’t think comedy and drama can be properly compared.

For a drama, I’d pick Season 5 of Breaking Bad. The acting, writing, everything was perfect. It built like no other show ever has. The only fault I have is that Ozymandias (the third to last episode) was the peak. of Breaking Bad The final two episodes could not live up to it. All that being said, the final season was amazing.

For a comedy, Season 4 of The Office was amazing. I hate that the writer’s strike interrupted it because the show was at the top of its game. Fun Run, Launch Party, Money, The Deposition, and Dinner Party are some of my favorite episodes. Dinner Party, in particular, is The Office at its peak.

Season 2 of Frasier, season 2 of Mad Men, Season 3 of 30 Rock, Season 2 of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Season 3 of I Love Lucy, Season 1 of Firefly, Season 1 of M*A*S*H*, I could go on for a while. Do miniseries count? If so, Roots would probably be on there.

A critics’ compliation list would be notably different from Emmys shows or ratings shows. I think towards the top you’d see:

    The Simpsons, Season 7, 8, 9
    The Wire, Season 4, 3, 1
    The Sopranos, Season 1, 5
    Parks and Recreation, Season 3
    Deadwood, Season 2, 1
    The Shield, Season 7, 5
    Justified, Season 2
    Mad Men, Season 4, 3
    Breaking Bad, Season 5, 3
    Friday Night Lights, Season 1
    The West Wing, Season 1
    The X-Files, Season 3
    Terriers, Season 1
    Firefly, Season 1
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 3
    Lost, Season 1
    Rome, Season 1
    30 Rock, Season 2
    Arrested Development, Season 2
    Louie, Season 2
    Happy Endings, Season 2
    Fargo, Season 1
    True Detective, Season 1
    Game of Thrones, Season 1
Curb Your Enthusiasm, Season 4, 7
    Archer, Season 2
    Freaks and Geeks, Season 1
    Six Feet Under, Season 5
    Dexter, Season 1
    Community, Season 2
    Sherlock, Season 2
    Fawlty Towers, Season 2
    The Office, Season 3

I don’t like some of these, but they’re either consensus favourites, the most inoffensive choices in beloved shows, or passionately loved by those who love them.

I feel like some people in this thread didn’t read the title. The question is if critics were to make a list, not you. Either way, this is one of those threads that is kind of redundant.

You could just go on Metacritic to look at the highest rated shows of all time,  and get a better sense of this… even though, as we all know, those scores are just based on the first few episodes of a season. Still, it gives you a decent idea of how shows might stack up against each other.

    http://www.metacritic.com/browse/tv/score/metascore/all?sort=desc&page=0

To use the most extreme example from the suggestions above, The Comeback (season one) had a score of 58, and ranked 1308 on this list. Pretty far from the top 100.
