I know this is an extreme hypothetical because I would imagine that the majority of us believe and are predicting that Game of Thrones will win its 2nd straight Drama Series title. Which Drama Series is going to come in 2nd, or if Game of Thrones didn’t exist, who would win? I’m going to go out on a limb and say Downton Abbey would actually take the title for its last run. Many people have House of Cards 2nd in their predictions but would it really win, given its writing and directing snubs last year? If Game of Thrones didn’t exist I could see House of Cards possibly getting back into those two key categories but what do you guys think?

I actually have Better Call Saul in first right now.

Do we not have the quote function anymore? You say that House of Cards did not get writing or directing last year, but neither did Downton Abbey and neither got editing either. The fact of the matter is that all of the dramas except Game of Thrones are very weak and I expect this to be the second year that Game of Thrones is the only one with both writing and directing nominations.

I would say that it is either House of Cards or Downton Abbey because both at least have the support of the actors’ branch between their respective bazillion nominations and SAG ensemble wins. Downton Abbey was closer to an Outstanding Drama Series win for its second season than House of Cards ever was, but I cannot tell if the ship has sailed on it. Although I am betting that we see a final-season boost in its nominations, not every show gets that and it is possible that it instead just continues to fade away as many shows do. Mr. Robot might rally, but its guild run was lackluster.

You speak of the guild’s but they don’t take into consideration the current season’s. Better Call Saul didn’t get a DGA nomination for the first season, but it’s a lock for season two.

Not sure how you can consider it to be a lock when it was snubbed the year before for a pilot episode that should have won and was directed by a recent winner for work on the same franchise.

@thedemonhog I realize that but Downton Abbey at least got a DGA nomination last year, so if I was to guess which one of the two series got in for this Emmy season (for either writing and/or directing) I’d go with Downton over House of Cards. Getting in for the Series Finale episode is a legitimate possibility.
