Trent did a similar thread in the Oscars forum and I thought it would be interesting to do the same with television series. The question is: If you could do a TV series…

-What genre would it be? What would be the style of the show? Is there another show that would be an inspiration?
-What would the show be about? Would it be an adaptation? Or even a remake?
-On which network would you want the show? Major network or cable?
-How long should the episodes be? And how many episodes would there be per season?
-How long would you want the show to run? How many seasons would you want for your show?
-Who would you want to cast as the stars of the show? Who or what kind of person would they play?
-Who would be the supporting cast memebers?
-Do you have guest actors or actresses in mind for the course of the series?
    -Who would compose the score?
-By whom would the show be written?
-By whom would the show be directed?

and finally: What Emmy nominations or even wins do you think it would have a real shot at?

If this continues to become a popular thread I guess we could even make a game out of it…

I write a lot of fiction, so I already have some stories that I think might make a fun series, so I’ll pick just one:

-What genre would it be? What would be the style of the show? Is there another show that would be an inspiration?
Sci-fi comedy/drama. No specific inspiration, but in tone it might be somewhere in the realms of “Futurama” and “Eureka,” but with a slightly more down-to-earth approach to its subject matter.

-What would the show be about? Would it be an adaptation? Or even a remake?
Original concept: Life in New York City following a rift in the space-time continuum, through which demons from other dimensions find themselves in our world. Focused specifically on a group of real-estate agents who specialize in demon residences.

-On which network would you want the show? Major network or cable?
Cable. Probably Syfy. Might be a good fit with their more light-hearted genre shows.

-How long should the episodes be? And how many episodes would there be per season?
    Hour-long episodes. 10-12 episode seasons.

-How long would you want the show to run? How many seasons would you want for your show?
Nothing worse than a show that overstays its welcome. Four or five seasons would work fine for me.

-Who would you want to cast as the stars of the show? Who or what kind of person would they play?
For the main characters I created, I imagined actors like Joel McHale, Lauren Graham, and Donald Glover.

-Do you have guest actors or actresses in mind for the course of the series?
None in particular. Would depend on storylines and characters.

    -Who would compose the score?
I don’t think very much about musical score. The network can sort that one out.

-By whom would the show be written?
If you’ve written for “Buffy,” I’ll be taking meetings. I’m thinking of people like Jane Espenson, David Fury.

-By whom would the show be directed?
    Hmmm, don’t know

What Emmy nominations or even wins do you think it would have a real shot at?
On that network, with that premise and tone, not expecting a significant Emmy haul. If I can score any writing and directing nominations and a few craft categories, I’ll be happy.

-What genre would it be? What would be the style of the show? Is there another show that would be an inspiration?
Coming-of-Age/Drama; It would be a very realistic representation of growing up from high school to college.

-What would the show be about? Would it be an adaptation? Or even a remake?
The show would follow a select group of friends at a high school in the aftermath of an assault that shakes up the whole small town. It would not be an adaptation.

-On which network would you want the show? Major network or cable?
Showtime or MTV; cable would be the best format, but it could work on either.

-How long should the episodes be? And how many episodes would there be per season?
    Hour-long episodes. 12-16 episode seasons

-How long would you want the show to run? How many seasons would you want for your show?
Enough to show these teenagers grow into young adults and show their transitions from students to people in the real world; 5 seasons (3 in high school and 2 in college and beyond)

-Who would you want to cast as the stars of the show? Who or what kind of person would they play?
If on Showtime, hopefully actors over 18 would be cast so the mature situations can be played out in a more realistic manner and I’d prefer them be lesser-known actors; They would play complicated young characters put in more mature situations than they are able to handle.

-Do you have guest actors or actresses in mind for the course of the series?
    Nope.

    -Who would compose the score?
There would not be a score, just a soundtrack.

-By whom would the show be written?
Myself, which is probably a reason it’ll never appear on television.

-By whom would the show be directed?
    Anyone willing.

What Emmy nominations or even wins do you think it would have a real shot at?
None; This genre doesn’t tend to attract Emmy voters, but strangely I’m okay with that.

-What genre would it be? What would be the style of the show? Is there another show that would be an inspiration?
A period drama, similar to Mad Men

-What would the show be about? Would it be an adaptation? Or even a remake?
It would follow the lives of four different people in post-World War II New York – a female doctor who moves from a small hospital in the South to NYGH and is predjudiced against by the male doctors. A drug user who loses his house and all his possessions and goes to live with his sister. The man’s sister is an elderly spinster who “sells” gossip to housewives in her apartment complex. Finally, the mayor of New York who sinks into deep depression and tries to commit suicide but is persuaded not to after an “angel” visits him.

-On which network would you want the show? Major network or cable?
    HBO or Showtime

-How long should the episodes be? And how many episodes would there be per season?
    Hour long episodes

-How long would you want the show to run? How many seasons would you want for your show?
    5 – 7 seasons

-Who would you want to cast as the stars of the show? Who or what kind of person would they play?
Sissy Spacek, Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest and Jack Nicholson

-Do you have guest actors or actresses in mind for the course of the series?
    No one at the moment

-By whom would the show be written?
    Paul Thomas Anderson

-By whom would the show be directed?
    Paul Thomas Anderson

What Emmy nominations or even wins do you think it would have a real shot at?
    Drama Series
All four leads win at some point

I’ve actually already written the first few episodes of this.

-What genre would it be? What would be the style of the show? Is there another show that would be an inspiration?
Drama/comedy. Not aiming to be anything other than subtle and expository. It would be low key, non scored, cinema verite. If Louie met Undeclared. Maybe Freaks and Geeks, but in college.
-What would the show be about? Would it be an adaptation? Or even a remake?
It would be a semi-autobiographical depiction of modern college life. It would focus on separate students in a way that could be the focus without much reference to the original anchor. Think Lost, but with looser community acknowlegement, but not so much The Wire where people are all over the place.
-On which network would you want the show? Major network or cable?
I would want to air it on HBO, NBC, FX,, or Showtime.
-How long should the episodes be? And how many episodes would there be per season?

Each episode would be under a half-hour. It would be approximately 12-13 episodes a season.
-How long would you want the show to run? How many seasons would you want for your show?

Four plus seasons. Cast members would fluctuate, allowing for experiences to be rehashed, but to be interpreted differently.
-Who would you want to cast as the stars of the show? Who or what kind of person would they play?

Young actors who look like normal people. No one particularly famous necessary.
-Who would be the supporting cast memebers?

This fits under the previous inquirry. It would be an ensemble show with no technical lead(s.)
-Do you have guest actors or actresses in mind for the course of the series?

There would be several bit parts and characters that might be referred to, but some that might not tangably appear except upon occasion. Again, no one specific comes to mind.
    -Who would compose the score?
There would be almost no score. Perhaps soundtrack used sparingly, but I’d prefer for actions and silence to work with one another. If I had to choose a composer, it would be someone like Sufjan Stevens doing stuff that would be like his album The BQE.
-By whom would the show be written?
I would pen every episode. Also, I would promote improvisation.
-By whom would the show be directed?
    I would direct each episode.

What Emmy nominations or even wins do you think it would have a real shot at?
‘Cause I’m so awesome, I’m sure it would get a writing nomination. I would love to see the cast nominated. One role I have in mind has an episode that would be pretty good Emmy bait. It might skew too young for Emmy voters.

-What genre would it be? What would be the style of the show? Is
there another show that would be an inspiration?

    It’s a Drama, an adaptation of a
german show, in the style of ABC’s Brothers and Sisters.

-What would the show be about? Would it be an adaptation? Or
    even a remake?

My show would be an adaptation of the german soap opera Bianca-Wege
    zum Glück
(Bianca – Ways to Happiness). It was actually adaptated for Lifetime
in 2006, but pretty poorly done under the title Monarch Cove. The plot oft he show
is the following: After being wrongfully convicted of her father’s murder and
subsequently spending six years in prison, Bianca Foster returns home to a new
set of family problems. Determined to help, she takes a job resort, only to
become romantically involved with business’s engaged heir. An epic love story
    begins…

-On which network would you want the show? Major network or
    cable?

I could see the show on cable, but
also on a major network, preferrably on ABC. On cable I’d love to see it on HBO
    or Showtime.

-How long should the episodes be? And how many episodes would
    there be per season?

The episodes would be hour-long. If
it’s on ABC with 22-24 episodes per season, on HBO with 12 or 13 per season.

-How long would you want the show to run? How many seasons would
    you want for your show?

I’d love to see it being on air between
    5 and 7 seasons

-Who would you want to cast as the stars of the show? Who or
what kind of person would they play?

    Jennifer Morrison would play Bianca,
the main character, Rose Byrne would play her manipulative cousin Kate.
Aaron Paul would be cast as the male lead character and love interest of Bianca.

-Who would be the supporting cast memebers?

    The alcoholic matriarch of the
wealthy family would be played by Sally Field (Brothers and Sisters all the
way, I know…) and her cheating husband would be played by Martin Sheen (I
loved them together on Spider-Man). The tough boss of the kitchen would be
played by Chandra Wilson. Other cast members would include Connie Britton as Martin Sheen’s mistress, J.K. Simmons as the
manager of the stately home, Abigail Breslin as the youngest daughter of the family,
Lauren Ambrose and Matthew Morrison as friends of the family who own their own
restaurant and Zachary Quinto as the power-hungry brother of Aaron Paul.

-Do you have guest actors or actresses in mind for the course of
    the series?

I’m a big fan of Desperate
    Housewives
, so I’d love to see some of these cast members on my show.

    -Who would compose the score?

    Steve Jablonsky

-By whom would the show be written?

By me! With support from others!

-By whom would the show be directed?

    No one special.

-What would be the realistic Emmy chances?
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Jennifer Morrison
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Aaron Paul

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Sally Field

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Rose Byrne

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Chandra Wilson

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Martin Sheen

TV.com brought me to the idea to create a TV miniseries about the 2012 election:

My cast would be the following:

    Giancarlo Esposito as Barack Obama
    Viola Davis as Michelle Obama
    Alec Baldwin as Mitt Romney
    Michelle Pfeiffer as Ann Romney
    John Slattery as Joe Biden
    Rob Lowe as Paul Ryan
