An absolutely fantastic fucking finale. Easily the best episode of the series by far. Every aspect was amazing. Beautiful writing, directing, editing, cinematography, music, and acting.

The kitchen scene and the future montage had me in tears. So beautiful.

The character payoffs were amazing to watch.

I really like the actress that plays Lawrence’s work girl.

    This episode was very funny.

I’m surprised Brown wasn’t in this episode. He didn’t really have anything to do and I’m really surprised by that. He was good but just wasn’t provided with any juicy material to justify a nomination.

Natasha Rothwell was so funny. Someone give Rothwell her own show yesterday!

I love that we actually see Issa face the repercussions of how she shrugged off the treatment of Hispanic kids at the school.

Lil Rel is also very good. Is her guest eligible?

This was such an amazing episode. It was smart, inventive, and well crafted. And it had a beautiful pay off. This episode was the perfect ending.

I cannot wait for season 2 to come back. Here’s hoping for an Emmy breakthrough. Rae and Orji need a nomination. They are that good. They were both stellar in this episode. This episode was also the best acting from Rae yet. I cannot wait to see her career blossom into something extraordinary.

    My Grade: A

    MVP: Yvonne Orji

I liked the savvy altered time structure here and the subtle digs on gentrification in “I-wood.” Issa Rae is an excellent writer, and that’s been somehow lost in the mix over the course of this season. Nice season finale. I’m as invested and interested in these characters as ever and quite glad that this isn’t the end of the line for the show. If it absolutely had to be considered the series finale, I guess that could have worked, but it would have been a weak one. Interesting season as a whole, though things felt way more dramatic and worked over than the funnier effortlessness on season one. I think there was some squandered potential in expanding the show’s reach, fanbase, and Emmy viability. They’re never getting that plum “Game of Thrones” lead-in again, and besides a bunch of gratuitous sex scenes to titillate that mostly male audience, what was it all for really? The Emmys won’t see anything new here that would compel voters to nominate it when they wrongly snubbed it outright this year. Maybe that wasn’t their goal, which is perfectly fine too, but still. I’d nominate Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji for everything possible, but that’s just me. Natasha Rothwell is a star, bitches! And for all we know, HBO could give the series a final eight episodes to air back-to-back in December sometime in the future (the place HBO sends low-rated shows it doesn’t know how to promote or what to do with overall, like “Getting On,” for example). Oh well. Let’s see what the Globes and SAGs do with them this year first. Also, I’d watch the shit out of “Due North,” like today lol.

    A+++ EPISODE!

I agree that everything was stellar – writing, directing, editing, music and cinematography and round of applause for season MVP Yvonne Orji on nailing such a layered character. She’s definitely making my personal awards list at the end of the TV season. The Globes, Critics Choice and the Emmy’s need to recognize!

Lawrence’s ass in that scene <3 Golden Globe winner.

I think this was Jay Ellis’ best episode yet. He’s been consistently great, but he was somehow #3 or #4 in terms of performance, but he definitely shone in this episode. Issa Rae continues to grow as an actress and she knocked it out the park (again) with her sharp writing. I still think, however, that ‘Hella Shook’ should be her tape. Yes should be.

The bit we got of Ahmal was great too, although I’m hoping season 3 explores more of him and why him and Kelli are not here for each other. Also I still think Ahmal and Tiffany’s husband, Derrick, were way more than friends at some point.

The finale definitely set up some exciting storylines for season 3. Will we get more Ahmal? Tiffany’s pregnancy and her shady separation from Derrick a while back will probably make for an interesting storyline. Molly is definitely playing with fire, but what about her co-worker? I want more Chad next season, he’s funny AF. Issa back with Daniel for round 3? Ew.

This episode was everything I needed to keep breathing Sunday night!

Issa Raye is just sublime! Directed perfectly, writing so true and honest!

Issa, Yvonne and Jay have really come with the goods, and from all parties mentioned, they’re acting gets better and better.

Montage scene was truly something and in turn, pulled some of the best acting to date from Issa & Jay.

Yvonne is surely, but not slowly taking the character of Molly to another place! GET IT, YVONNE!!

    GRADE: A+

I’m not caught up on the show, still need to watch the last episode. Episode 7 had a lot of great parts to it, and overall I’ve really liked it, but it didn’t meet my expectations and I don’t really think the 2nd season is any better than the first despite the jump in acclaim, it might even be a little bit worse. The problems I had with the first season are still apparent here, and it mostly has to do with Issa being unlikable, and now Lawrence sort of is too. I just don’t understand what their problem is, especially Issa. She needs to just chill out and stop acting crazy towards Lawrence, she’s being so immature and it’s pretty annoying to watch. The season 1 finale resolved a lot of the issues for me, which were basically the same but with Issa and Molly instead of Issa and Lawrence, so hopefully this year’s does as well.

Watch the finale and tell me if you still feel the same.

I don’t get the excitement over the finale. That structure has been done many times before and with more sophistication. The effect here IMO was not as expected; it didn’t open the large windows, but instead felt like condensed plot development. And for a finale, this didn’t go anywhere. There were better episodes this season. Issa Rae on the other hand… wow. If she gets nominated again at the Globes I think she could win.

The show needs to work on its episode titles.

That dream sequence was like 3 seconds. If they let it play out a little longer and went full “This is Us” sentimentality, then I would’ve liked the finale a little more.

HBO needs to expand their episode count. Eight is not enough. With regard to episode titles I’m glad they’re not stuck As Fuck — this season was Hella — don’t know where all of this is going for season three?

Great show. Great finale. Can’t wait for season 3.

If you’re going to critique about episode titles, then you know you’re reaching.

I loved the finale, and it fixed a lot of problems I had. I still wouldn’t say the 2nd season is better than the first, they’re about the same for me.
