Looks like the YouTube Hillary-themed campaign ad was a huge success, so NBC is conducting preliminary talks to revive the show for a limited episode run. The showcreators and all four acting ensemble members seem very receptive to making this happen.

    Thoughts? Yay or nay?

Yay. I hope it’s true. I’d love to see it return.

    Hard nay.

I love the show’s first four seasons and think it did a lot of good in terms of gay representation and putting a face to a concept that some people have a hard time accepting, but it had a (very) conclusive ending. And it didn’t end creatively strong enough for me to wonder what else this team was capable of doing.

If they could retcon everything after Harry Connick Jr. started appearing and just pick up in 2017 like nothing happened, I might give it a curiosity watch. Otherwise, nope.

Let the dead rest! This is unnecessary.

The final episode ends with Will and Grace running into each other after 20 years of not talking to each other (so about 2026). So I don’t see how this is going to make any sense continuity wise.

I’m game for this. I’m willing to go with it for a new batch of episodes. I’m sure they can figure out a satisfactory way to write around the conclusive ending.

Yay! The election special was hilarious, and the foursome stepped back into their roles flawlessly. I wouldn’t mind a new batch of episodes at all. It might need to be retconned some given the series finale, but I don’t mind that too much here given that the finale was no sacred cow and not good to begin with. They could speak to a new generation of fans doing this, which is a great thing in its own right.

Ugh. Much as I loved the first few seasons of Will & Grace, it ended on an awfully rough note. And by rough note, I mean its final few seasons were borderline-unwatchable.

I predict that this will feel dated.

I think the difference will be that Max Mutchnick and David Kohan will be the show runners for the revival. They were only involved with the show for the first four seasons, which were undoubtedly the stronger half of the series. Season 5 was okay, season 6 was shocking (Messing’s pregnancy certainly impacted her capacities on the show), season 7 was a welcome return to form, and season 8 was mostly mediocre.

I agree. The last few seasons were not good! The characters Jack and Karen characters just went totally over the edge. Their performances started becoming like a parody of thier characters.

I see this flopping. As the shows ratings were in the tank by the final season and its not like its built up a huge audience in syndication over the years (like Full House did).

First of all, the series was averaging about 7.5 million viewers in the last season and the finale was watched by 18 million. So if the revival averages 7 million that is gonna be right up there with what the Comedy ratings are for NBC and other networks at the moment.

But the big problem with this revival, they are gonna have to rewrite the entire finale. It’s ridiculous.

Well 7.5 in 2005/2006 wasn’t good. Of course the finale was watched by a lot more but the show last over half its audience from season 6 to 8. The show just got really bad.

I think I would have higher hopes for the reunion if it were on Netflix or Amazon.
