Daniel’s article on Anthony Anderson’s episode submission got me thinking could he be this year’s Anthony Anderson; meaning the guy in the comedy actor category who wins surprisingly because he has an episode with the most broad humor to it? I remember 3 years ago watching Jon Cryer’s episode and thinking it was good but not enough to win and this year I watched Anthony Anderson’s episode of Blackish and thought it was good but didn’t feel like it had enough range. But if Jon Cryer won without much range and Jim Parsons won 4 times without much range then Anthony Anderson can do it too for being on the show with the broadest humor in this category right???

I feel like Will Forte goes through a lot more physical comedy than Anderson (and also deals a bit with morbidness like Cryer did), which is why I’m considering him as my first place choice. Anderson is funny and broad, but he isn’t nearly as loud as Jon Cryer was in 2012. Also, he occasionally risks getting overshadowed by Tracee Ellis Ross.

Anderson could win, but I personally don’t find him to be the Jon Cryer of the category.

I won’t be surprised if Anderson or Macy pull off a win – their episodes are great to watch, but Forte has the best episode in my opinion I’m rooting for him.

I don’t think so. He would’ve been my wildcard had he submitted “The Talk”, that episode had everything to warrant a win, he still stands a chance but I don’t think he’ll win.

The good thing about cmedy lead actor this go-around is that I liked all the submissions so whoeverr wins I’m going to be happy

Jon Cryer had the best episode when he won Lead Actor (don’t get me started on that awful Supporting win). I think Anderson may be tied with Macy in having the second funniest ep, as they both don’t compare to Will Forte. I rank Jeffrey Tambor fourth, even though he became a lock once this new Emmy system was announced.

I think Anderson could do it. He’s definitely hurt by the expansion of the voting system; he definitely needs the episodes to outweigh general popular support given how the show wasn’t nominated anywhere else, but he’s got a big, broad, funny episode, and it does have its share of range. There’s a really lovely tender moment between Anderson and Ross at the very end.

If a popular vote prevails, Tambor has it in the bag. But if this were the old panel system, Tambor would be very vulnerable. This is one of those litmus test races where a loss for Tambor would indicate that voters are watching the episodes and taking them seriously. I think Tambor could still reasonably win if voters go strictly by episode submissions, but there’s no way he loses unless voters are judging the tapes.

I really believe Forte and Anderson can easily “surprise”.

Ugh, I had this analogy all saved up to use in the slugfest next week.  Daniel said it all.  Tambor or Anderson wins depending on if voters watch the episodes.

Anthony Anderson is totally the Jon Cryer of this year!  The difference is that he is not going to win because of the new system.  But in watching the episodes, his really stood out as the best and only classically comedic Emmy submission.

Forte’s episode is less physical comedy in the traditional sense and more just him not talking, making his comedy physical by default.  He is great and should be winning from the nominees, but his submission is just him driving around and blowing stuff up.  It is an exercise in high-concept storytelling, not an acting tape.

This is the year that friends that are Emmy voters will make an impact.  Anthony Anderson has been around for some time and is finally getting the recognition that he deserves.  He should have been nominated for Supporting Actor Drama for The Shield.

He has worked with a lot of people and they could help propel him to a victory.
