I can’t imagine any other possible scenario where an actor and actress have both been nominated for playing the same role, so am I right? Is Charlie Harper the first?

Quite possibly. I just realized that two of the female guest comedy actresses were nominated for playing men.  I suppose if a male actor gets nominated for an Emmy for playing Kim Jong-il in a TV movie or miniseries sometime down the road, there may be another character joining Charlie Harper in the elite club of male/female Emmy nominees.

This is really a good observation, Daniel. And who would have thought it was this character that will be the first one to achieve this.

Amazing what the Emmys have been willing to go through for Two and a Half Men.

I just hope Bates doesnt’ win for this. She’s lost nine Emmys only to finally win for playing…Charlie Harper? Besides, that’s a category where I really want a certain someone to win (Maya Rudolph).

    Very astute observation though.

On the film side, if there’s ever a Bob Dylan biopic, and the actor portraying him is nominated, then that actor will join Cate Blanchett, who was nominated for playing him a few years ago.

I swear to God, if Kathy Bates finally wins her damned Emmy for playing Charlie Harper and cracking wise about having balls…

Anyway, astute observation, Daniel. And as Morgan notes, we can put an asterisk on this for the inevitable Bob Dylan biopic.

I don’t really watch soap operas, but there was never a dream sequence or something where this happened…?

I assume the character Watson in Sherlock Homes would count if Lucy Liu is nominated for he role in “Elementry” in the lead drama actress race, this would then gain a nomination by both a male and female actor for the same role, complimenting this years nominee Martin Freeman (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries – “Sherlock”)

    Nice catch.
