I like modern family. But 4 TIMES IN A ROW!! I find it a bit overrated and I think it won’t win it’s 5th time. What do you think?May 5, 2014 at 5:16 pm #317038
I don’t think it’s overrated, sure it’s not as strong as it once was but it still makes me laugh and smile each week, and it is easily one of my favourite all time shows!May 5, 2014 at 5:18 pm #317039
I don’t think it’s overrated. I don’t think it’s underrated either. I just think it’s a very popular show that has its haters and its fans…May 5, 2014 at 5:30 pm #317040
You can usually plot someone’s enjoyment of Modern Family based on how much they care about awards — it’s inversely related.
I think it’s been a top-six comedy for five years now, but it hasn’t been the best for all five. Still, it’s a very good comedy that deserves more than one series trophy. I would also much rather MF tie Frasier than some of the other recent multi-winners like 30 Rock.May 5, 2014 at 5:59 pm #317041
Its first two seasons were great, and the wins were not undeserved; its third season was stale and didn’t really deserve it, but I can see why it got the nomination. For its fourth season, the show was in total autopilot, and wasn’t even one of the top 6 comedies of the year, so the fact that it actually won over far superior comedies was beyond a joke. The fact that it probably will win a fifth is just unspeakable, and I think a lot of people are going to be questioning the validity of the award and the voting process if it gets lazily checked off for the win yet again, when we have stronger comedies this year.May 5, 2014 at 6:03 pm #317042
I agree with SxECanadian that a person’s hatred for Modern Family is usually directly related to how much they care about awards.
I enjoy the show. I used to love it, now I only like it. It deserved to win for its first season but I can’t really say it deserved to win (over the competition) for any seasons after. Still a pretty great show.May 5, 2014 at 6:12 pm #317043
I know a lot of people who don’t follow the Emmys, but still think Modern Family has gotten bad over the years. You don’t have to follow them to realize that the show has declined in quality and not really deserved to win all four times. Once or twice was enough.
Anyway, I still like the show and enjoy the odd episode here and there, but even then I don’t think it deserves a fifth win in the slightest. You can like the show without having to think it should win every single time.May 5, 2014 at 6:14 pm #317044
^What I meant was that most of the show’s biggest opposers are people that follow awards closely. I agree that it doesn’t take a genius to notice the show’s decline in quality, even if it is still quite good.May 5, 2014 at 6:40 pm #317045
As I have frequently said, “the only good thing about the show is Ty Burrell.”May 5, 2014 at 7:02 pm #317046
Well, I thought MF started being a rather mediocre sitcom about halfway through its debut season, and it hasn’t stepped it up since (though I haven’t watched in almost a year). So, while my dislike is egged on by all its awards wins that’s not why that dislike exist. But, like, didn’t we just have this exact thread a couple months ago?May 5, 2014 at 7:41 pm #317047
Is it a good show? Yes. Does it deserve to be in the hall of the best comedies of all time? Hell no.May 5, 2014 at 8:01 pm #317048
Yes, the hatred is directly related to how many awards its gotten. If it had never won, or did so only once, people would probably be saying its being underrated and deserves better.
I think it has deserved all of its best series wins, but if you think about it, its not like there have been that many deserveing comedies over recent years. The race has actually been in bad shape lately. I think the only other deserving shows this last few years has been 30 rock and veep.
