After watching the slugfest videos for the EMMYS I was thinking about all the men and women in contention for best comedy actor and actress and I really think there are so many worthy actors that it seems to me that there needs to be more than 6 nominees, considering in both categories I can’t pick just six. I really think just like the Oscars did in 2010 the EMMYS need to add to the # of nominees for acting. Am I crazy or am I making a good sound argument?

On the drama side, sure. Comedy? No.

I have to disagree with your argument for increasing the number of Emmy nominees. My main fear is that by doing this, it’ll dilute the overall product of the Emmys.

I think we’re inching toward 10 nominees each for Comedy and Drama Series in the next 5-10 years.

I think all the acting and “picture” categories need 10. Will voters watch all the submissions? probably not but maybe actual deserving contenders will pop up that never get nominated only talked about.

The more nominees there are in each category, the more diluted the value of the Emmy becomes. The very nature of awards is to be exclusive. The Emmys should not turn into an “everybody gets a trophy” ceremony. Only a select few actors and shows recieve nominations each year, and it should stay that way for the Emmys to remain prestigous. Otherwise, this turns into the People’s Choice or Teen Choice Awards, where whole categories exist because of the “everybody gets a trophy” approach. As for the hope that more deserving contenders would get in with the expansion, the more likely result is that shows and actors that had been nominated before and were in danger of being snubbed would be assured a chance of getting back in.

There would be enough in the two Series categories, but I would vote to keep all the other categories as they are. Expanding the movie/mini categories to 10 would be especially ridiculous, because there aren’t even enough contenders to fill them.

There should only ever be ten nominees if they introduce a ‘Programme of the Year’ category, where dramas, comedies, mini-series, variety. Reality, documentaries, entertainment, factual etc are all eligible.

I think there should be ten nominees from the series categories, and it should have been enacted last year.

I think there should just be five nominees in every category…..even 7 is too many!  Agree with FNLFan89….it’s all about prestige.  Plus, just think of all the seating required for that many nominees!

If anything, the Emmys should cut some categories.

Seven series nominees is already too many as it dilutes the value of a nomination. I would support a system in which a popular vote decides a short-list of ten series nominees, and then five series advance after a panel samples each show.

That’s pretty much the system we had from 2006-2008. Nominations were determined by a combination of your popular vote ranking (50%) and your panel tape ranking (50%).

I think seven is a fair number.

Uh, when did the Oscars add acting nominees…?
