I’m so glad you got Damian Lewis and Julia Louis-Dreyfus again, awesome.  They gave fantastic interviews last year.  Julia wanted to show off how they screwed up her Walk of Fame star, and Damian just kept talking and talking.  Can we leave questions here?

Also– it would be a dream, but somehow if Bryan Cranston and Claire Danes are interested, I think they would be great, of course.  I’m sure they’re a little harder to get, but if you keep managing to get Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who really doesn’t even need to campaign…  Jumping off your Armando Iannucci interview, as a showrunner, Vince Gilligan may be another to target.  I know from watching the Breaking Bad DVD commentaries he knows his Oscars and Emmys trivia very well, calling out films that won and records they have, and cinematographers winning twice in a row…not sure if you’ve had any luck, but he’d be AMAZING.

We have invitations out to Bryan Cranston and Claire Danes — plus many others. Stay tuned. There are layers of bureaucrazy we need to peel back as we advance forward. I don’t know what’s holding up our chat with Bryan, though. Twice this year, when I ran into him at events, he PROMISED to chat with us again via webcam (remember the last time when he gabbed with us while in the deep dark of his basement? Spooky!) … I think the holdup is in the office of his PR managers, but I’m working on that.

We held off on doing many of the big names early this Emmy season because we knew we could catch up with them later. Obviously, they were going to be nominated. Also, we had hoped to chat with them in their homes — bring in cameras/ lights/ crew and do a live chat with them while they showed us old awards on their fireplace mantles, etc. Julia and some others agreed to that, but it’s expensive to do and we didn’t find a sponsor for the series in time. So we’re reverting to Plan B — our regular live chats via Google Hangout or Skype. It’s fine. But we have Big Plans for this series in the future. Live events in crazy places. For example, I had hoped to get Matt Damon to join us for a live chat held at the tomb of Liberace out at Forest Lawn — just a stone’s throw away from Bette Davis’ grave. I’m pretty sure he would’ve gone for that. Ha! Wouldn’t that have been grrrrrrreat?

Tom, as always your ideas surprise and leave us very hopeful for Goldderby’s future. Keep churning those out!

I’m so glad you got Lewis and Julia Louis Dreyfus back on the show. But I must also join the chorus clamoring for interviews with Claire Danes and Bryan Cranston. Squeeze those PR reps for all they’ve got!

Yes!!  God isn’t the Hollywood PR machine obnoxious?  Most of the highest profile people are so closed off from access, with many agents, lawyers, and publicists forming multiple barriers.  Fans used to be able to write directly to actors and directors, and in some cases get replies; it’s unfortunate there are entourages and teams that follow some of these people and dictate what they do.  Your chances of getting Steven Spielberg, for instance, would probably be pretty slim—though it would be fascinating to hear his take on the Oscars coming from interviewers who actually know how the awards work and could ask him more specific questions, like regarding the Saving Private Ryan year.

Bryan Cranston’s doing a play up in Boston, playing Lyndon Johnson.  I’m so fascinated with what he’s done on Breaking Bad, crafting a legendary television character, and particularly how he mapped out how much to reveal of the villain in certain episodes, how he built for certain moments.  I have loved the in-depth discussions GD has had with Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul so far this year.  Claire Danes would be fascinating too—since the success of Homeland, like Breaking Bad for Cranston, has pretty much been on her shoulders from beginning.  That kind of pressure and how she has performed would make her a great interview, especially when considering the context in her career, how her film career kind of fizzled and never really took off.

Don’t forget the Vince Gilligan suggestion.  That man really knows his Oscars and Emmys, spattering off random trivia to the Breaking Bad actors that their original cinematographer John Toll is the only person to win back to back cinematography Oscars for Legends of the Fall and Braveheart.  He’s really going to town with BB promotion…surely he wants that Drama Series win.

Totally agree with KT. Goldderby’s interview go into much more depth than those 7minute long talk show appearances. They’re a lot like Charlie Rose who does 30 minutes to an hour and I like watching those.
