After watching the series, I think he should be added to the contenders for Best Supporting Actor, Drama Series.
Terrence Howard and Taraji P Henson are definites, I believe.  He is the only other actor on the show with a real chance at a nomination and winning, particularly for his “coming out” episode.

He’s a dark horse for a nomination, but I doubt he could win. I agree though that if anyone breaks through besides Howard and Henson, it’s him.

Agreed. Aside from Henson, Smollett was the breakout star of the show. Probably going to be tough to score a nom but definitely worthy and possible. We’re looking to schedule a hangout with him pretty soon.

Smollett more than made his impression felt in the last two episodes. I wasn’t considering him for anything Emmy-related before then. Now I think/hope he’s made a case for himself for consideration, at least.

I’d be shocked too, actually, but I’d like to see him considered as a contender.  He earned and deserved it.

Jussie Smollett deserves an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.  However, he won’t get nominated.

The nominees will be six white men.

At first some of his line readings were pretty stiff but he got a lot better by the end of the season. I wouldn’t personally nominate him but if the Emmys can nominate MASI OKA from Heroes then Smollett isn’t outside the realm of possibility.

Smolett is great, but he does not have a lot of range. Honestly I think if you look at the whole season Trai Byers should have more of a chance of getting nominated because he is pretty amazing with such a complex character. Some of his meltdowns could really stick with viewers.

He’s not the stand out on the show. Taraji and Terrence are obviously but when it comes to supporting actors, I think Bryshere is more of a stand out than Jussie but still I wouldn’t say he deserves a nomination.

Byers? Really? His melt downs and “episodes” rang false to me all season. His best moment was the episode where he has the meltdown in the elevator and the other two brothers start singing with him and calm him down. I could also just be biased because ‘Shameless’ has a major character with a bipolar arc this season and Cameron Monaghan is handling it MUCH better than Byers did. It’s also better written than Byers material was, so there’s that too…

I’m failing to see what has Smollett done that is remotely worthy of Emmy consideration. He’s just decent. Not a bad actor but not really outstanding either. Taraji holds that show together. When she has less screentime or a less interesting story arc, the episode (and the show itself) suffers. Terrence is great too but it depends on the angle. He’s pretty repetitive sometimes. The three brothers are good but nothing to write home about. The youngest sends me 90210 type-of-acting vibes, the oldest can be good sometimes but he’s more of a Daytime actor. The blonde who plays his wife has potential but her character needs depth.

I would only nominate Taraji and probably Terrence.

I couldn’t agree more about “the blonde” AKA Kaitlin Doubleday. I think she really stood out in the few scenes she had. She was tough against Lucious in some episodes, and also provided very good reactions to Andre’s meltdowns. At the beginning she just seems kind of mischievous but her character did have more layers added as the show went on. If she had an episode or a stronger storyline, I think we would think she could be a contender. Grace Gealey AKA boo-boo Kitty does have a stronger presence some good moments with Cookie, but she’s pretty one dimensional. Hopefully they wil grow more in the second season.
